When Finnish software developer Jerry Jalava lost his ring finger in a motorcycle accident (bike versus Bambi), his doctor replaced it with a thumb — a USB thumb drive, that is.
Concealed under the prosthetic fingernail is a 2GB USB drive, ready to pop into any computer. And no, the USB finger isn't permanently attached to his hand. Kinda disturbing if you happen to share a computer with him.
Always the developer, Javala is looking to upgrade his finger with wireless technology, RFID tag, and more storage. Just think — a Bluetooth finger. What other body parts can double as storage devices?

You're looking for stories about USB suppositories, I guess.

I'm not sure about storage, but I have something that doubles as an input device.

I don't think I want that guy fingering my computer anytime soon. Talk about a....violation. LoL

I am just glad it was his finger.

He installs a 2GB USB Flash drive at a time when SOTA (State Of The Art) is more like a 64GB drive with an eSATA interface? ... This guy is obsolete before he's even gotten to version 1.0! He needs to finish experimenting with thumb drives though, before he even thinks about replacing his personal hard drive!

Having lost half my left middle finger a couple of years ago, I think it's great. I only wish I had thought of that!

The guy has an interesting brain to think that data storage is more important that an advanced prosthetic that can mimic normal use, and even respond to brain waves.
Reminds me of the (old) joke about the guy who keeps interrupting a conversation because he's getting "a call" inside his head from the phone he's embedded. Then, he stops and grimaces in pain. His friend says "What's wrong?!" He points to his nether regions and says "I'm getting a fax!"

freaky and nearly pointless...
DVICE, just because something 'plugs in' doesn't make it worth web space.

Is he planning to hardwire himself to this finger plug, as in part cyborg ?
By casacooper at 7:17 PM ON 05/31/09
the idea is pretty cool, but he really could have done better on storage- that thumb is big enough to hold a lot more data!
