Sanwa Throat Microphone: how the military does Bluetooth

throat1.jpgThroat microphones, although popular in military and police applications, haven't quite caught on in the civilian ranks. Yet. The Sanwa Throat microphone might change that — if you can get past a few funny stares.

The Throat Microphone looks like a high-tech choker, but this collar places a microphone right up against the throat, eliminating most background noise. The concept works perfectly for military and motorcycles, so why not for noisy workplaces or making a call during a football game? The Sanwa model certainly looks less threatening than the ones the SWAT teams use, but for now, no word on pricing or availability. Also, we don't know how good they actually sound. Especially with a turtleneck on.

Sure it looks silly now, but how silly do folks look with Bluetooth headsets hanging off their ears? Somehow, that became acceptable, so this actually stands a chance.

I hate the military. They are an instrument of war, not peace, and they always get the advanced technology before the common citizen. Like all the cool robots and brainwave reading devices. bastards.

Yes again, Dvice, old news. I used this 6 years ago in a paintball match.

True story, these are used in paintball under the name foxfire or firefox or something, I always get it mixed up. But, those aren't bluetooth they are set up for FRS radios. But, but, this picture looks identical to the ones we use on the field right down to the white and black plastic. But, but, but I would take one for blue tooth, then you can wear a turtle neck and look REALLY crazy talking to yourself in the supermarket.

So how hard was it to add bluetooth to this?

By Braveheartz2 at 11:19 AM ON 04/04/09

The guy who hated the military has no appreciation for sacrifices made and fought for that make this country free. What are these teachers and parents saying to these lost people? They couldn't be living in the real world.

Interesting, but how do hear the person you are talking to.

I appreciate the concern which is been rose. The things need to be sorted out because it’s not about the individual but it can be with everyone.

One improvement I can think of (besides making it bluetooth): Have a way to hang the earpiece when not in use off the choker part with the microphone. A good magnet should work. The phone rings in your pocket, you insert earpiece and press the button on the neckpiece, then talk away. Don't knock the geeky looks. Look at the zillions of people assimilated by the Blue Tooth Borg now!

For those who oppose military-ness, an awful lot of technology got reused after WW2 and the Cold War. Without the military innovation we wouldn't have the computers we use now!

The military doesn't use bluetooth because it can't be secured or encrypted. Hate the military all you want, but most of the technical and medical innovations and finds of the past century have come from the military. Besides, I bet you wouldn't say it face to face or when they're saving your butt
