As companies look for every possible way to save money, more office workers than ever are being asked to telecommute, doing their work from a computer at home. Not having to drag your rear end into an office each day might sound appealing at first, but many telecommuters find that there are many distractions at home, from noisy pets to the kids arriving home after school, that make getting any work done a challenge.
By providing a space specifically designed for work that's completely separated from the house, the OfficePOD is designed to shut out the distractions of home. With high quality materials and a luxury feel, the idea is that this will become be a place workers want to be in, even though it's just outside the back door.
Of course, another way to get some peace would be to stick your little noisemakers in their own isolated environment.
British based OfficePOD will start leasing units in the UK next year for about $7100 per year.

Something this "trendy" and "hip" looking would have a Mac in there.

This is fantastic. One addition, allow the chair to recline all the way back completely horizontal to create a lounge so you can use the space to read or nap (you know for your "lunch break" :)). It would be amazing to work in there during a hard rainfall, so relaxing.

If built right , It would be perfect for people that want a home office but don't want to eat up a bed room or add on to the house .
It be nice if you could buy as well as rent .

Wow very cool idea. But, how am I supposed to get my starbucks coffee if the starbucks employees are working in a little pod in their back yard? Hehe j/k. That would be a cool office to have in the back yard though. You could have a nice view of your swimming pool right from your cubicle.
I'm sure that someone could build their own for a lot less and not have to lease it. Just as long as you have a wifi connection it's worth it so you just need your electricity to be plugged into it. And a small a/c unit would be very nice.

Um- would it have an escape pod or self-destruct option?

Great, a cubicle in your yard, for you to maintain yourself.
A work/jail cell at home, not just somewhere else that ISN'T home, and might be able to be blocked out of your mind when you ARE at home.
A place where productivity can be expected even MORE of the time.
Can you tell that I am less than impressed, even if it does have an Apple in there...

Because office drones have gardens and spare space in the yard. Maybe they should market office cubicles or small offices with highspeed broadband convenient to residential areas, with private parking and near to coffee and tea shoppes, etc.. Cheaper anyway, one should think.

I hate to shoot down innovation and all, but is it insulated? How about the bugs, and in my neck of the woods, snakes and field mice?
For my money, just buy and put up a shed. It's cheaper, you can outfit it anyway you want, complete with windows and A/C, and it doesn't let the whole neighborhood see you just bought an new laptop, printer, iPhone and iPod.

I like the design but not the idea of telecommuting, I feel cabin fever setting in just thinking about it.
