New Tesla Model S Electric Sedan brings prices closer to Earth

tesla1.jpgTesla, the company behind the Tesla Electric Roadster that garnered so much hype last year, is now unveiling its latest creation: the Tesla Model S Electric Sedan. This all-electric car is designed for not only efficiency, but speed and sexiness as well. And this model brings the price down to a somewhat-reasonable $50,000.

Adding an extra layer of cool to the Model S is what looks to be a huge touchscreen dashboard, allowing you to control things like the stereo and GPS all in one place. It doesn't get much slicker than that, does it? No word on when this thing will be available for the common man, but don't expect them to be easy to come by.

300 mile range is better, but at $50,000 who's going to buy it? Especially in this economy. That's right, the wealthy. How about an electric car for the middle class. Give me 200 to 300 mile range at a price of under $25,000. Then I'll be happy. Until then I'll just convert my Saturn SL to go that range for $8,000.

Tesla motors is a US based company. These cars will come to the US first. Where in the friggin USA can I legally drive 120mph? Seriously why do we make cars that go that fast?

Does limiting the top speed make it more affordable? if so make one that does 80mph for $40,000.

50K is reasonable??? Has the recent correction in the market taught these manufacturers anything???

Maybe the Aspera 2e is more within John Q. Public's reach, but it only has three wheels:

Only the rich making $100k can buy this car. It's a family sedan isn't it? Maybe make a slightly smaller car (pehaps even a coupe with a suicide door like the RX-8) that will compete with the Prius or Jetta and price is under $25K. I betcha it will sell like hotcakes!
