Enthusiast turns his HDTV into the ultimate digital pinball machine

With the scarcity of arcades here in the US, pinball enthusiasts have had to take matters into their own hands to get their fix. One such enthusiast is BadBoyBill, the admin of the HyperSpin forums, who used an HDTV, an LCD monitor and a 3D pinball simulation program called Future Pinball to build his own 1080p pinball cab. It recreates that classic pinball experience to the T, with the LCD acting as the backglass — and Bill can essentially play any supported pinball game he wants now all in one machine.

Check out some of his high def gameboards below, and check out the video above to see Bill's cab in action.

This guy could make a fortune if he mounted these in actual pinball cabinets with real pinball controls and made sure the HDTV has a strong plexiglass cover to keep it from getting damaged.

This guy could make a fortune if he travelled back in time to the 60's.

All those tech skills yet he can't keep a camcorder focused.

There is nothing like the real thing and it doesn't use as much electricity I bet.

Already been done, called an Ultrapin. It features real licensed pins, controls that actually simulate the feel of a flipper when pressed, etc. Still, this one looks nice as well, but nothing compares to the real thing.

Turn off autofocus. Other than that (and slow load times), awesome!

It looks awesome! I would have liked to have seen what he was using for paddle controls though...

I kept waiting for the "Tilt" that SciFi promised in their DVICE email - but it never came. The video is absolutely terrible - and not just the focus. I doubt people want to see 4 minutes of switching between tables. Show how it's setup, the controls, and more than 10 seconds of gameplay!
