Asus Eee PC Keyboard PC launches in May/June for only $400

Asus-Eee-Keyboard-PC.jpgIt looks like '09 is going to be an innovative year for Asus. The company, which heralded the age of the netbook in the US with its original Eee PC, is turning that keyboard-in-a-PC concept we showed you into a real product with a launch date and everything.

Asus has two versions of its gussied up keyboard on the way — a wired one for $400, and a wireless keyboard (with Bluetooth) for around $600. Both will come packed with the kind of internals you'd expect in a netbook, with a 1.6 GHz Atom processor, 1 GB of RAM and a 16 GB or 32 GB SSD for storage. The 5-inch touchscreen will let you access your files without a monitor, though you could hook it up to one or a TV if you wanted to watch movies through its USB, VGA and HDMI ports.

Look for the Eee PC Keyboard in May or June of this year.

this totally reminds me of my first computer a Tandy Color Computer "Model II", http://www.old-computers.com/museum/photos/tandy_coco2_3s.jpg You had to plug it into a TV to see it's output (obviously) and it recorded and read external data off tapes (cassette tapes). :) That was sooo cool!!

This concept is rediculous. This is the reason the majority of items are not made "All in One" If one thing stops working the whole damn thing usually won't work. With as much abuse your average user puts on a keyboard I see this as a horrible idea.

I'm left handed and this is going to drive me crazy!
I hope they make one with the screen on the left of the keyboard.
: )

another consideration is that adding the pretty necessary external hd & cd/dvd devices will end up taking as much desktop real estate as small format pc -- so why not just get one of those in the first place?

computer in a keyboard...? like my old C64 then?

Asus is running out of good ideas it seems. You need a monitor for this anyway, so it's $400 for the keyboard/PC plus $150 for the monitor.

It looks cool and all , But what happens when you need to load up a CD ?
Because the Idea of needing a external CD player would kill the entire slick factor for me .
