Japanese society is already hedging its bets in the face of a rapidly declining population with the promise of robot workers. The latest addition to Japan's emerging service class is the updated version of the ApriAttenda, created by Toshiba.
At just one meter tall, the robot can open doors, handle trays and drinks and comes equipped with cameras in its three-fingered hands. The robot is expected to join the ranks of day care and nursing robots being designed to meet the needs of the graying populace. Shown above is the ApriAttenda being trained by one of the humans it will soon replace.

In 20 years robots like these will be considered old tech and new, complex, and shiny bots will be walking the streets doing pretty much everthing humans do. That is for another 20 to 50 years before they take over.

"At just one meter tall"
Really? If that robot is one meter tall, that is an awfully short woman training it. Like 50cm short.
Methinks it's a little taller than one meter.

Maybe they should have said "it's one meter WIDE." Certainly looks that way to me.

It can extend to be a little taller so I think it's extended here.
