I love simple innovations. You don't need to be flashy to be useful, and that's just what this USB cable with a built-in SD card reader is: useful and modest.
After all, most people have USB cables kicking around, and they also have SD card readers kicking around. Why not combine the two? You save the clutter and increase the usefulness. I love it. If you also love it, you can grab one for yourself for a mere $12.

I preferred the USB card readers that completely enclose the SD card that way you can keep one card in your device, and one in the reader. It also doubles as a thumbdrive.

uhhh.... might it not be a bit more convenient for the reader portion to be at the OTHER end of the cable?

This is one of the dumbest cables I have ever seen... If you can't shell out the extra five bucks for an SD reader you probably don't have anything that uses and SD card. One could argue that this is great for people on the go because you only need once cable, but if you're on the go you probably have a laptop with an SD reader on it which completely eliminates the point...
