That cheap $99 Roku Netflix box that we love so much is about to get even more versatile. Still shining from a 720p HD upgrade six weeks ago, now the little-box-that-could is about to hook up users with downloads from Amazon Video on Demand (formerly called Amazon Unbox). It's a private beta test so far, but we're hoping the new capability will soon be available for all Roku/Netflix users.

Being the HD snobs that we are, Amazon's all-standard-def downloads haven't appealed to us, but it's inevitable that the service will accommodate HD before too long. Because the Roku box is proven itself perfectly capable of HD streaming, that can't be far behind. Next stop: YouTube, Hulu and in-house network streaming?
