Roku Netflix set-top video box now beta testing Amazon Video on Demand

roku-amazon.jpgThat cheap $99 Roku Netflix box that we love so much is about to get even more versatile. Still shining from a 720p HD upgrade six weeks ago, now the little-box-that-could is about to hook up users with downloads from Amazon Video on Demand (formerly called Amazon Unbox). It's a private beta test so far, but we're hoping the new capability will soon be available for all Roku/Netflix users.

Being the HD snobs that we are, Amazon's all-standard-def downloads haven't appealed to us, but it's inevitable that the service will accommodate HD before too long. Because the Roku box is proven itself perfectly capable of HD streaming, that can't be far behind. Next stop: YouTube, Hulu and in-house network streaming?

The ROKU is really good but it has a few froblems at least the way Netflix is running it. FF>> is really clunky, and there are none of the extras found on most DVDs.
