MAD architects live up to their name with a futuristic city center for China

MAD-huaxi-urban-nature_nort.jpgI don't think it's a stretch to say that this planned Huaxi city center for Guiyang, China is just bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S! It's an architectural fever dream created by 11 different firms, invited and overseen by Beijing-based MAD architects. It's supposed to mimic nature rather than cater to the traditional design of a city: "The city is no longer determined by the leftover logic of the industrial revolution (speed, profit, efficiency) but instead follows the 'fragile rules' of nature," MAD said in a release.

You may remember MAD for their work on that crazy floating star-shaped city we showed you. While neither this nor that will probably ever be built, MAD is still known for pushing the limits — even when designing real buildings, like Sinosteel Plaza.

Apart from those fugly 3D asterisks and the misshapen doughnut building those are actually some pretty cool, and realistic designs.

the only "nature" this mimics is the nature of quantum mechanics over a plank length.

My only question:

What will the archaeologists of four million years from now think?

well, most obviously it would need gigantic funding and especially a planner's attitude to build an actual city center and not let it evolve over time.... what's natural about that?

As is the case with just about every MAD surreal concept design, it's excitingly unconventional, nigh-impossible to pull off, and simply gorgeous
