Logitech G19 keyboard with color LCD display now up for pre-order

logig19_front.pngIn case you didn't see this extraordinary Logitech G19 keyboard with its 320 x 240 color LCD screen at CES last month, here it is, now available for pre-order at Logitech's website. Taking the idea of a keyboard to the extreme, this $200 G-Series device blurs the line between laptop and typing tool. It actually has a mini Linux computer inside, letting you watch internet video or place widgets on that wee screen, front and center and tiltable for your viewing pleasure.

The 4.86-pound behemoth lets you select the precise color of its LED backlights, records macros on the fly, and has 12 programmable keys. If you don't have an extra $200 lying around to spend on a YouTube-viewing keyboard, or don't want to wait for it to ship until next month, might we suggest the excellent Microsoft SideWinder X6 keyboard we picked up on sale at Best Buy yesterday? It has all the best features of this $200 one, for about $135 less.

Why do people say "LCD display" or "ATM machine"?
Liquid crystal display display and automatic teller machine machine.

Logitech is great! This is an interesting idea for keyboards. Some of their best stuff is wireless. This however does not look wireless, unless it can switch between the two modes. It would be better to have a slightly heavier keyboard with a rechargeable battery. This however would take it one step closer to being a laptop.

Arguably, the best feature of the G19 is the inbuilt Linux OS. The Microsoft keyboard lacks Linux (except whatever snippets MS has stolen and incorporated into Windows).

Yeah, this is nice piece of keyboard and I'd buy one long time ago if one little thing didn't piss me off. What am I talking about? Damn-small-Enter-key... Why is is like this? Probably I'll never understand it.

+1 on that i was about to ask for a part number (and my company distributes logtiech to retail stores intill i saw that it still had small enter key)

Thanks for pointing it out - only flaw with the keyboard otherwise its next to perfect.

@ USER45701
Looks like it has a normal sized enter key to me both on the text and num pad.

omg now u mentioned the enter key i have noticed most of the buttons have been rearranged to make the keyboard smaller. if u look at the buttons near the right shift compaired to a normal layout i.e. the g15, and the button above the enter button (wot ever that is) this keyboard layout sucks balls. im stickin with my g15 cus its perfect except for a colour desplay. logitech should keep the important stuff the same. they have good ideas but it comes at a price.

I have read there is no linux support for this keyboard

I wonder if you could use NDIS wrapper to load the drivers and use the keyboard in linux and run the config apps under wine.
