Easy motion-sensing light bulb: no wiring required

mslightbulb.jpgThere are plenty of motion-sensing outdoor lights, but what about inside your home? Many hallways don't need a light on all the time. Or a room that need a light, but finding the switch is a pain. How many socks do you drop when you hit the light in your laundry room? Plus, most motion sensors require hard-wiring.

The Smarthome Screw-in Motion Sensing Light Adapter, as the name applies, screws into a typical bulb socket — no screwdrivers required. Turn on the light switch and the bulb will turn on only when it detects motion, then shuts off automatically when there's no movement within a 16-foot range. The length of time it stays on is adjustable from 5 to 100 seconds. It retails for $25, but who knows how much you'll save in energy costs?

I want one for the hallway to my bathroom, one by my front door, and another outside of my home theater. Where will you put yours?

Great in theory, but there's one problem with this idea... who has a bare bulb anywhere in the house? Usually the bulb is covered by a lamp shade or other device making the "motion sensor" suddenly not able to see anything but the inside of the shade. Maybe an optional variation with a an extendable motion sensor I can mount a few inches away would help.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with gizzmo. Also, if you're going to design a new concept bulb: filament? Come on. Let's just keep pushing the energy efficient bulbs or the LEDs! :)

Also that huge thing is too tall to fit into any lighting fixture I can think of.

Smarthome has been making a similar product for years. I have 2 in my basement. My problem with motion sensors is that they tend to shut off when motion stops. This can lead to some unique problems in the company washroom.

Il existe des interrupteurs (SENSOR SWITCH) qui détecte les mouvements et allument les lumières de la pièces.
