"It's science fiction made real," a doctor from Tel Aviv University told Reuters, as he demonstrated how a new laser the university has developed is better than stitching up a patient. The laser allows a wound to be welded shut as opposed to sutured, which makes it far more watertight and there's less tearing. It's done by very carefully controlling the temperature of the beam, and Israeli patients treated with the laser have already enjoyed faster healing times and less scarring.
Click through for a video demonstration of the laser in action. Be warned, in case you just ate — the video does show several small cuts and wounds, but it's nothing overly graphic.

Funny but awesome.

I am thankful we are friends with Israel. We will be sharing advanced tech with them and leaving the Middle Eastern barbarians that seek to destroy both our nations behind in a era of glory.
By european at 3:51 AM ON 02/11/09
oh nevid nevid. you're not their friends, you're their btches..
talking about living in your own little bubble-world.. wake up and use your brains u.s.americans and maybe the world will hate you less
By F_C at 9:19 AM ON 02/11/09
god, your politically motivated comments are both pathetic and disturbing.
surely this technology has greater implications that just the allies of America.
The tech looks good! Hopefully it won't be exploited like the pharmacutical industry exploit people and hospitals.
By wired1087 at 5:33 PM ON 02/11/09
Nevid by no means speaks for all, or most, Americans....Please know that...
Anyway, awesome tech....I love seeing the future finally getting here...lol...
By LtColAmick at 10:34 PM ON 02/11/09
It is rather disturbing how narrow minded most Americans are. Nevid is a perfect example of this foolish narrow mindedness. I guess he never learned anything from watching Star Trek.
By LtColAmick at 10:37 PM ON 02/11/09
Oh and European, please do not categorize the rest of us with morons such as Nevid. Doing this shows the same level of foolish incompetence that Nevid did with his comments. Physician, heal thy self.

First off, awesome rad tech that I knew would come someday.
Now..
@European...Get a life sucka and stop being Iran's bitch. At least Israel is doing benefical work to help out mankind, which is what Nevid was probably getting at. Its anti-semites like you that keep the world in the dark.
@LtColAmick..Whatever, you can't even make up your mind if you agree or disagree with European's statements. Probably all that superior learning you were doing by watching Star Trek....Next time open a text book, tool!
@Iso...Nevermind these loosers. Nevid was obviously praising the fact that Israel is working to advance mankinds technological knowledge. The fact that they are Jewish makes them bitter as anti-semites cannot stand anything good coming from Israel. Pathetic just like Safd said.
By Nevid at 12:46 AM ON 02/12/09
I like how most of my detractors (European and LtColAmick especially) assume I speak from an American vantage point. There are many nations working with Israel other than America, or did that posiblitiy escape you. Perhaps your hatred of Jews and Americans blinded you to that so you assumed I am an American. You are wrong. You are also narrowminded as much as you accuse me of being. Next time ask where one is from before you make generalizations about their origins. That would show you at least have a motive beyond your predjudice against Isreal and America. Fools.

Lets just stop this now while we're ahead. Hateful comments, like most things directed to hurt someone, are misguided and should be disregarded by anyone with a sense of decency. I just wanted to diminish the hateful comments to come. I wonder if i succeeded?
p.s Nice Helio and Nevid for taking a better route.

I read about this idea a few years ago - the laser "melts" the collagene to form the basis of the weld - awesome stuff , and so easy to control - yes , you can make it fied usable - just like israeli blod clotting factor injection and the superglue to stop bleeding . nice stuff - and it only took a few years to make it work . congratulations .
I'm not for or against the us or israel - I'm a soldier of fortune you can say , but the war effort on any side powers amazing discoveries we need .

"I read about this idea a few years ago"
Really? I heard about this idea in 1966...
That makes a total of 12 technologies seen in Star Trek that are actually coming to light. Great show.

This is actually, the realization, advancement of the micro-current driven, cellular/ tissue regenerative work championed by Dr. Robert Becker, outlined in "The Body Electric". Pulsed photons have replaced DC micro current as an actuator, but the priciple remains, (and it only took 150 yrs. to move forward!)God Bless the AMA!
