Discover if The Force is with you with the Star Wars Trainer

star wars science.jpg

Let's say some old guy told you to wear a helmet with the blast shield painted over and then asked you to blindly deflect laser bolts shot at you by a seeker using a light saber. Could you do it?

You can find out if The Force is with you this fall when Uncle Milton (really, that's the name of the company) unveils its Star Wars Trainer ($130), part of the company's new Star Wars Science line.

The Trainer sort of looks like the floating ping pong ball test from The Right Stuff, except you make the ball float using your brain waves. Really, your brain waves. Using headgear like the one used in Brainstorm, your alpha and beta waves are transfered into wireless impulses, which operates the fan at the base of the tube, which floats and spins the ping pong ball.

Like Luke, you have to simultaneously relax and concentrate, which you'll find isn't easy. But you're cheered on with recorded Star Wars exhortations, such as concentration-bursting syntax murdering from Yoda. There are 15 skill levels from Padawan to Jedi Master. You've never had so much fun making a ping pong ball float. Just don't try lifting a snub fighter from a swamp with it.

Dude - that's from Forbidden Planet, not Star Wars!

So, levitating objects with you mind is not from Star Wars?

By greatsunjester at 9:03 AM ON 02/17/09

Yup -- From Forbidden Planet. The Krell learning machine. Next up from Uncle Milton -- the "Star Wars Holographic projector". Put on the headgear, focus your mind and create a 3D image!

It warms my heart to know there are people out there that still watch the classic stuff.

A hundred and thirty bucks...? No... I don't think so... I have better things to spend my money on than that... Especially in this economy… Sorry Uncle Milton… btw… Am I the only one who thinks that name sounds way too much like some pedophile…?

"Uncle Milty" was a Walt Disney analogue and creator of "The Extremists" as well as an amusement park, in an alternate Earth in the early issues of Giffen/DeMatteis' Justice League/International/America. IIRC

ACESPOT - Actually, that was "Uncle Mitch". Go back and check.

Uncle Milty was a nickname for Milton Berle, especially during the years he had his own TV show.

its breakthrough toy Gramma Uncle Milton $130 can buy me soo much more than a ping-pong ball floater...

By Satisfied Jedi at 8:10 PM ON 10/13/09

We bought this and it works like a charm. My 3 yr old is having a blast with it, and it is a neat piece of engineering for only 85 dollars! Great conversation maker and fun for adults and kids alike.

And no... I am not associated with Uncle Milton's but does anybody know if they are a private or public company?
