Cyberpunky Isophone concept: hop into a swimming pool, make your call in private

Isophone-water-calling-concept.jpgDesigning duo James Auger and Jimmy Loizeau have a radical concept for you ponder. I'll just let them have the floor:

The Isophone is essentially a telecommunications device providing a service that can be described simply as a meeting of the telephone and the floatation tank. The user wears a helmet that blocks out all peripheral sensory distraction whilst keeping the head above the surface of the water… a space is created for providing a pure, distraction free environment for making a telephone call.
I didn't know a "meeting of the telephone and the flotation tank" was in high demand, but looking at all of this cyberpunkish prototype for the Isophone I'm down. It's reminiscent of something out of Ghost in the Shell, or a Pre-Cog from Minority Report.

Living in our world today where we only have the attention span for one minute YouTube videos, maybe an isolation space is the way we'll have to make calls in the future.

Other than brainwashing techniques. I don't see this as a viable solution to anything. Unless of course you are asking to create a new serial killer that takes out all the people in the pool unaware of their surroundings.

Interesting idea.. i just hope the wearer will survive after making a call.

I am now officially not safe anywhere from people yelling into their cell phones... EVEN UNDERWATER...sigh

By Agent 86 at 5:11 PM ON 02/07/09

Wow !! I can now use the cone of silence in the pool. Eh, chief can we build a pool at control headquarters ? Sorry about that chief.

This is one of the most stupid ideas I've ever seen. Nice design though.

You've been able to make a cell phone call through a full-face scuba mask for a while now.. I don't know why you'd bother with this ..

By tcseacliff at 11:56 PM ON 02/08/09

more like the "cone of silence". (get smart)LOL!

By tcseacliff at 11:59 PM ON 02/08/09

"missed it by that much!!"LOL!

EPIC FAIL

They could adapt this device for land and call it a Phone Booth. It would make millions.

By Floatation Tank at 8:38 AM ON 02/12/09

I can lay in my floatation tank and make a cell phone with no fuss.

Since you float on top of the water and don't need to paddle, your hands are free to use your cell phone normally. I'd just put it in a ziploc bag beforehand.

This is all assuming I really need to make a call during a multi-hour float session, which hasn't been the case after 100s of float sessions.

Although this is odd, could the concept be modified(made smaller) for life-preservers? Designed also with a GPS, may help coast guard or other emergency services to retrieve shipwreck victims more easily... just a thought

You will never see the man eating carnivorous animal that would be nipping at your legs

By PaintLight at 5:05 PM ON 02/13/09

Who ever uses somthing this stupid deserves to get electrocuted.
It seriously is the cone of silence for a pool. Compleatly worthless. Get a phone booth and some big headphones, and you could put together something just as effective for $50.

By LeDude at 8:44 AM ON 02/14/09

Or a movie where the phone either mind controls the users, or kills them.

By KIKU at 3:40 AM ON 02/15/09

Don't understand.

Quite Nice. Science is cool. They are making efforts but i hope user can use easily with any harmless activity.

God help them.

Cheers for their invention.
