All-in-one recycling center separates and destroys

modeallinonehomerecycler.jpgRecycling requires a good amount of organization. Since every material needs to be separated, you can't just toss all of your recyclables into one big bag. No, that's not what Mother Earth requires. She demands that cans be separate from cardboard, and so on. That whole process is made easier with the All-in-One Home Recycling Center.

It has separate compartments for all of your materials, and it smashes and crushes them down to save space and keep you from having to empty it every couple days. Of course, for $250 it's pretty insanely expensive, but think of how good you'll feel about yourself and your eco-friendly ways once you get this bad boy running.

Our new recycling company got rid of the sorting. They do the sorting now, all we have to do is throw the stuff in a second garbage can sized... can.

Here in the Midwest our local recycling company also had us stop sorting. They were taking the separated items and putting them into a single container, so our sorting actually made more work for them.

Where I live they charge you about $60 a month for the blue recycling cans and then all the dumpster divers come and take out all the plastic bottles, aluminum cans and glass bottles anyway so we don't have the blue can. Instead I keep all the plastic and aluminum separated then we take them down to the recycling center and get money for it all.

They told us that each thing has a number, the 2 liter bottles whatever number that is gives more money than the milk containers. We brought in an equal amount of the 2 numbers and for our plastic 2 liter bottles we got about $10 but for all the milk cartons we got .50 cents. So it's not worth it. When you throw it out in the trash they sort it all.

I did see a product for kids (and big kids like me) from Bill Nye and Elmer's. It's an at home paper recycling center. You can recycle all your newspaper and regular paper and turn it into new paper that the kids can color on or you can make it all into note pads or thick paper for greeting cards that you can print on in your printer.
