Water jetpack may be man's greatest invention to date

Somebody tell me where I can get one of these. RIGHT. NOW. Seriously, how awesome is this? It's a jetpack, but it uses water to propel you in the air. You're tethered, but can still get pretty high/far, and you just drop into the water if something goes wrong. It solves all of the problems of regular jetpacks!

If they put this thing up for sale, it'd be the ultimate toy of the lake mansion set. Inflatable trampolines? Please, those are for poor people. The real fun is with water jetpacks. Seriously, I want one so, so badly.

Looks like a fake...Water jets don't seem be that strong..

By no u at 10:12 PM ON 01/29/09

you're retarded. sorry, if i went into an explanation you'd be too stupid to understand.

By fix-nz at 12:05 AM ON 01/30/09

This is quite possibly the coolest thing the interweb has EVER shown me....go that guy for inventing it!

By itz at 5:27 AM ON 01/30/09

wow, i thought jet skis were fun. This looks like a down right blasty blast.

also, viclis, there is a wonderful tv show called mythbusters.... watch it more

By Firefly at 9:46 AM ON 01/30/09

Hey, VICLIS. Did you know that there are machines that project a stream of water at so high a pressure and focus that it can cut up to 3/4 inch of metal? Water jets ARE that strong. Google "water jet metal cutting" and you'll realize that you are not as informed as you thought you were...

By Luis Arana at 10:23 AM ON 01/30/09

I hope they start renting these at jet ski rentals!

By lafe at 10:59 AM ON 01/30/09

LOL! I want one too!

By MEnotU at 3:59 PM ON 01/30/09

That is great.. I would love to rent one of them.. Can you lay on your back and shoot yourself thru the water like a jet ski?
yeah a jet ski/ jet pack.. Crus around, the up into the air, then cruse around, then back into the air.. yeah..

By muss 34 at 2:35 PM ON 01/31/09

Insanely COOL.................
I wonder if firetruck could power one of those jet packs ??

By michi at 5:42 PM ON 01/31/09

Wow, awesome idea!
I'd like to try this one.

By IceCKryss at 3:17 PM ON 02/01/09

Reminds me of the Hover Nozzle for the FLUDD in Super Mario Sunshine.

By NSparks at 10:00 PM ON 02/03/09

They did a great job digitally masking the cable to the helicopter, but there are several moments where the 60+mph downwash from the rotor is visible on the surface of the water. Also, the downwash actually makes the water from the nozzles look more powerful than it is. The music track masks what would just be helicopter noise. Good thing the "pilot" is bald or his hair would give it away.

By tailwhip at 7:33 AM ON 02/05/09

There IS no wash other than from the nozzle blast. It is just a fire hose with similar pressure. A hose that size requires a few firemen with the weight of their gear to hold it onto the ground, helicopter...good lord!

By moviedemon at 10:31 AM ON 02/05/09

nsparks and viclis,

It's not fake, you goobers. I saw a guy demo-ing this when my family was on vacation in Florida last year.

The sad thing is, WIRED did a story on it a long time ago. Way to keep up DVICE...

By Reuben at 1:34 PM ON 02/05/09

Well I'm wondering... there must be electronics to power this thing... What happens to that when you fall in the water? Electric shock? Goodbye Jetpack?

By Peeps McJuggs at 2:14 PM ON 02/05/09

Reuben, you're about as idiotic as viclis. What happens to a jet ski when it falls in the water? Electric shock?

By quickjman at 4:18 PM ON 02/05/09

Peeps,
Have you ever fliped a ski jet???
There is ALOT of electric shock

By MikeyLikesIt at 9:48 PM ON 02/05/09

Looks like tons of fun ... I'll do it if I get the chance, but I still want Boba Fett's jetpack instead ... I don't want some huge hose and a mini boat trailing around behind me.

BTW... the CAPTCHA thing on this site sucks! I've tried it 5 times now and keep being told:
"Your comment submission failed for the following reasons: Text entered was wrong. Try again."
It kept displaying the same code, and not working, until I hard refreshed the whole page.

By RyanSauer at 12:09 AM ON 02/06/09

the navy and the coastgaurd could make good use of this

By afterburner909 at 6:06 AM ON 02/07/09

Why are there ALWAYS MORONS who immediately call something fake without bothering to spend even 2 min. researching it? Yeah, there's a lot of fake crap on the web, but some ppl think that everything they don't understand is F/X. It reminds me of the middle ages when anything strange was "magic" or "witchcraft".

By Designzall at 4:28 PM ON 02/17/09

Looks like someone got bored playing with bottle rockets. We have a Waterjet cutter that blasts through many inches of steel with the help of an abrasive, so I have no doubt this video is real.
