SoundBulb: the light bulb that moonlights as a speaker

soundbulb_2.jpgWireless speakers are all the craze — who needs unsightly wires running to speakers throughout the home? While we're at it, who needs unsightly speakers at all? Here's a novel solution: Build speakers right into your light bulbs.

That's exactly what the SoundBulb is: a wireless speaker contained inside a functioning LED light bulb. No obtrusive speakers, no wires — just sound and light. Bluetooth wireless tech gives them the ability to stream audio from most computers or cellphones, without wires.

You control the volume by twisting the bulb's outer ring, and the on/off switch for the wireless receiver is on the side (so you might not want to put this in the socket of your 20-foot cathedral ceiling). The speakers get power from the socket, so there's no need for speaker cable or batteries. Now we can only hope they jump from concept to reality.

Audio wonks, feel free to make up your own jokes about these having "really bright sound."
