Big fancy expensive audio cables are nothing new, but these power cords from Sine take things to a whole new level. The blue "budget" Coliseum II uses 99.9999 percent pure silver, and runs $2,900 for a 5 foot cord, while the top black Kosmos version uses something called Kosmos Super Alloy, and costs a mere $5000.

I've got news for people who think this is a good idea.
The wiring in your house doesn't look this neat. Nor the wiring from your house to the transformer, and on to the power company's substation.
Spending 2000$ or more on the last 60 inches of wiring doesn't in any way change the thousands of feet of wiring before that point.
People can conspicuously consume all they like, but that doesn't make it any more than just bling.
The same goes for the previous articles the last few days about hundreds of thousands of dollars in stereo equipment. It doesn't change the recording quality, nor the external interference, or your ear's ability to hear. It is a lot of $$$$$$$ for bragging fodder.

@ BOXERFANATIC
i always wondered why this didn't occur to more people. when i bought my first nice television the salesman tried to get me to buy some expensive monster cable co-axial cable. like that is going to improve the signal from the cheap wires the cable companies use.

High end cable is one of the world's great cons - it involves perfectly willing victims who literally fight to give away their money in the face of all reason and science. They beg to be fleeced.
God bless all these idiot cable companies. Best scam ever.

I could see these selling if they were just extension cords inside. I would buy them just because they look cool. But I wouldn't pay more than $20...

There is a reason why they dont use silver for wiring.
You see although silver is indefinitely the world's most conductive metal. It has the least resistance (yes I am perfectly aware some idiot out there is going to say it's gold), but it's never been used for wiring for 2 reasons: 1. its price, and 2. it tarnishes.
what will this thing be like inside in 20 years ?

Even though your house wiring is not up to par with this wire, if you DID have a SERIOUS UPS (such as an APC datacenter quality unit that was inline and filtering).... Its internals are not even made as well as this cable.
Furthermore, if you did have an UPS made to this quality (what... $500,000 for that UPS), you are all dead on to the recording quality... plus, what would an amp made to this quality be worth? over a million?
If I ever saw someone plugging this into anything besides directly to a high quality UPS, I ask them if they tried the new blinker fluid that adds 50hp to their car.... and promptly sell them a gallon (3.4million bucks)

I have to agree with everyone here being an electrician I know first hand what all those other wires look like and how many splices are in them. I could make something like this for about $20 and sell it claiming it was silver inside. the same idiots that would buy it would never be smart or willing enough to actually open it up.
