Obama's BlackBerry stays; first technological battle won

obamaBerry.jpg

After much discussion and haggling, President Obama gets to keep his BlackBerry after all. There's considerable concern about security, but he'll only be using the handheld device among a tight circle of friends, and will change his email address he's had for many years. Details are still forthcoming, including whether the device will be an actual BlackBerry or a more-secure emailing smartphone.

This bodes well for the future. This small, yet symbolic battle signals a huge change underfoot in the country's technology arena. Walking into a White House that's been mired in the techno-dark-ages for the past eight years, Obama shows that he's not going to let any lackeys, Luddites or lamers stand in the way of technological progress. Bravo!

Well goody; Obama can now talk with his buddies Wright, Rezko and Ayers again. Oops, I wonder if they'll have encrypted phones too?

Referring to the White House as being in the dark ages for the past 8 years, is simply not accurate. During the Bush administration, there was significant technological progress:

It is not really email security that is the issue. All classified military briefings require cell phones to be left outside because of the possible of listening through the phone even if it is off.

Just because bush and his administration didn't buy into every trendy thing that came along doesn't mean they were in the dark ages. grow up.
