Netgear's Digital Entertainer Elite set-top media vault sees light of day, looking good

netgear_eta_front.jpg

We got a close-up look at the Netgear Digital Entertainer Elite EVA9150 we told you about early last month. Its appealing user interface is remarkably polished with its reflection-festooned TiVo-like navigational scheme. It plays back a slew of file formats, too, and yes, it plays DiVx and XViD (here's an update -- it even plays pirate-friendly Matroska files if their audio is encoded in AC3 (thanks Stone!).

The punch: This baby has the oomph to play back a variety of 1080p files with alacrity.

The news: February availability, priced at $399.

It does play matroska files if the audio is encoded in AC3 (which most MKV files are).

Video file formats: AVI, DivX, Xvid, WMV9, MOV, M4V, VOB, MPG, MP1, MP2, MP4, ISO, IFO, MKV (with AC3 only), TS, M2TS, PS
