LEGO camera can't be taken apart, unfortunately

legocam.jpg

This is an official LEGO camera. Yes, the company is starting to sell gadgets that are made to look like they were built out of the famous toy blocks. It's pretty awesome stuff, although we're disappointed that the camera isn't made out of actual LEGO bricks. You can't take it apart and switch the colors around or make a camera that's shaped like a spaceship.

OK, so that would make for a pretty fragile camera, but isn't the whole point of LEGO to let you build whatever you want? Selling a LEGO product that can't be taken apart just seems wrong to us. But, hey — cute.

True, but I'm guessing you can attach Lego pieces to the bumps on the top. How's that for a camera shoe? And if there are Lego holes on the bottom, there's your spaceship.

Oh dear, it's the return of the ill-fated LEGO Lifestyle, an attempt to market non-toy products. Integration-wise, in 2000 there was a digital camera accessory to Mindstorms and LEGO Studios called Vision Command; 640x480 IIRC, given CCD price-performance of the day. Also, LEGO® is a registered trademark, and should be used only as an adjective, not a noun. I.e., "Legos" is a parse error.

This would be a nice camera for an adult with kids. Looks very ideal for family outings. I don't think I would pull this out for formal occasions, it might be a bit embarrassing, especially if not kids are present.

'Selling a LEGO product that can't be taken apart just seems wrong to us.'

Agreed.

If you think THIS is cool, you should check out the desktop computer Apple is developing in concert with Lego (mentioned in the latest issue of Mac|Life). The special LEGO pieces actually conduct electricity, so you can swap out solid pieces with, say, LED ones or fans. It's flippin' sweet.

This is a genuine, certified LEGO iMAC, not those homebrew ones. And you can attach regular LEGO pieces to the top!

Oh, for heaven's sake, the Mac|Life LEGO Mac was a fake prototype. Just like the MacBook Wheel and the Squidget.

Looks cool, but I would like it better if it was a digital camera.
