Lumitop: illuminated clothing lights up the night

LumiTop Amanda Rcs.JPGFiber optics are, well, fiber. Makes sense to weave those fibers into haute couture fashion clothing. Not exactly designed for shrinking violets, the Lumitop clothing line will make a statement on any dancefloor or red carpet. Check out the gallery below for more samples of this latest stab at tech fashion. There's even something for the guys… well, only if your name is "Gunther." You have to wonder where the battery pack goes.

Surprisingly, the clothing can be washed — just remove the batteries. Different colored LEDs are used to change the colors, and yes, there's an on/off switch.

Just imagine how this look could improve a drab traffic safety vest. Men at work, getting their groove on…

These cloths would be prefect in a Logan's Run remake!

To hell with sci-fi! Bring these garments to real life! And stop presenting them as niche items. I am so sick to death of american fashion, if you can call it fashion at all. I am tired of seeing guys with shaved heads and baggie, drab clothing. I am equally tired of the fact that females get all the colorful, interesting clothing. America sucks when it comes to anything to do with anything futuristic!

I think the garments are beautiful.

i wonder how bulky the battery/light box is and how cumbersome it looks with the fiber optics feeding in. also how long does the battery life last and how dark does it have to be for it to show up. sooo many questions.

I love these. When do they go on sale? They would look pretty cool on the dancefloor...

To hell with sci-fi! Bring these garments to real life! And stop presenting them as niche items. I am so sick to death of American fashion, or, more correctly, the total lack there-of. Needs to be brought to market. Who makes this stuff? Anybody know?

I wish they would put this out in the public. It would be pretty cool wear to wear... LOL... btw... I have to agree with dnelms, it would make for a cool Logan's Run remake.

The guy's top is a little over-the-top for anything outside a disco. It would be kinda nifty if someone could do single fiber-optic cables around hems and edges, though. Next Winter: the Armani Tron Collection, for REAL power suits and ties!

I'm sure these will keep all of the guys eyes on the girl's eyes.

So why didn't they use real female models? If there's a problem such that real people couldn't model the stuff, then they should fix the problems before announcement.

By kabracha at 1:50 PM ON 04/20/09

DCM, I think it's because these clothes don't exactly flatter any woman who's not built like a 12 year old boy.

OMG this is a HOT FAB.. i love this how and when did you come up with is?
