Here's a tiny 2.6-pounder that's almost small enough to be called a netbook. The HP Mini 2140 Notebook PC's 10.1-inch screen is LED backlit, and with its optional 80-gig solid-state drive and small, low-power Intel Atom processor, it's packing all the right tech.
Its keyboard isn't too small, either, it's 92 percent the size of a full size keyboard. And hey, it's made of aluminum, making it super-chic. Surprisingly, at the same time, it's super-cheap, with pricing starting at $499. Available late January.

HP's press release, and HP's overall CES press release
By Boxerfanatic at 10:53 AM ON 01/06/09
Gee...
I wonder if HP has been watching Mac blogs, and listening to all the people who were dissatisfied (for a couple of reasons) with the MacBook.
Between this and the Lenovo, HP, and Dell All-in-Ones that are starting to catch up and edge past the iMac, hardware wise...
Other companies are starting to eat Apple's lunch, hardware-wise, and not just on specification, but on design, and fit/finish and style.
But Mac OS is the deciding factor, and without hacking, one has to stick with Apple hardware. Hopefully Apple feels the pressure, and gets back to innovating, and pushing the envelope for the copycats to keep following.

Looks good, but the last time HP tried to make a notebook smaller (the dv1000 series) the motherboards all burned out immediately after the warranty expired. Google for forums and read case after case. It happened to my dv1351se as well.
