Gadget holster is seriously ridiculous

gadget-holster.jpgLook, you didn't grow up to become a cop or a detective. And for that, I am sorry. But really, having a holster that holds your cellphone and your keys will make you look like a dork, not like a cop. Trust me.

The e-Volve Gadget Shoulder Holster is like a holster for a gun, but it really just gives you some additional pockets. It is, in a word, ridiculous. I mean, I can't really think of a good reason to wear this unless you had T Rex arms and couldn't reach the pockets of your pants. In which case far be it from me to make fun of your pitiable situation. Otherwise, however, you'll just get laughed at.

I love how in the close up picture of it, you see a strap with a buckle clearly meant for strapping around your chest.

By Shazammer at 8:12 PM ON 01/23/09

Actually the strap goes around your other shoulder just like a shoulder holster. I can actually see this being practical for someone like a technician that has alot of gadgets to haul around, phone, PDA, various small tools, etc. Who cares how it looks if it makes the job a lil easier.

I dunno. I can kind of see the point of this.

it isn't about reach, it is about retention.

Most slacks and similar attire have loose, shallow, and very conspicuous pockets. Things show through thin material, and fall out of shallow pockets.

A shoulder holster is actually well hidden by a suit jacket or blazer, and doesn't have the design problems of pocket clips, belt clips, and lots of things in pants pockets.

Not fashionable at all without being concealed, but if concealed, it seems like it might be useful.

It could get a little less bulky, though. Design revisions, and all.

Great for camping and hiking trips..

By Shinyfish at 1:12 AM ON 01/24/09

No! Its so horrible! And you shouldn't be taking your gadgetry camping!(right about the strap though)
But, hey, whatever floats your boat. More entertainment for me when I see people walking around in public with it on...

I can see were this could be practical used by a technician, investigator, security, police officer in the field or even a business man. Things are kept neatly in there place and are easily within reach while still giving the user full mobility to do what ever there job en tales. On the other hand, to see some Joe Schmo walking down the street with one of these is just laughable. I think I'd have to ask them if they forgot there fanny pack at home.

I am getting sick of Adam Fruccis 'oh that's not trendy' mentality. maybe one of the reasons it doesn't 'look cool' is because the guy in the picture, 'the model' so to speak, is a middle aged white male who looks like a detective? Try some pictures on some trendy younger people. Besides who the hell made this guy the fashion police? Anyone seen this? The guy can't even match, let alone dance!

I think there is a niche group out there that maybe would benefit from it. Like what was said in earlier posts, a technician or something along those lines "might" be able to use it, but it's a stretch.

Now as far as a police officer or detective using it, it's a little more believable, but a lot of (not all by any means) officers or detectives that wear sports coats already have shoulder holsters. I just don't see somebody wearing a jacket, and not having enough pockets to put all their stuff.

But people will buy anything, and I'm sure there will be some geeks out there picking this up.

I picked up a similar thing at CES made by an Austrian company called UrbanTool. I had an internal battle over whether or not it was "cool" or not, but in the end, I decided it was cool and would work for me.

I carry my wallet and iPhone in it.

While similar in functionality, I think the Urbantool model excels in terms of materials choice and secureness. I plan on using it when riding my motorcycle and in normal day-to-day stuff too.

lol I'd seriously buy that. Between my PSP, iPod, remotes, controllers, blutooth devices, cell phone, cordless phone.. Would make life easier for me anyways.

If people who do research like archaeologist in the sun or oil rig geologist could get solar pannels on the back of the strap so this could also charge them it would be amazing.

I think it is much cooler than ladys purses nowdays men carry around...

I think it would be great if you do a lot of traveling and need to fly from here to there. Keeps your valueables close to you while in a large crowd and leaves more room in your carry on for other things. As well as living a large city where there is purse snatching or your wallet being picked out of your pants pockets. With this you'd have it secure under your arm under a jacket.

By BullwhipGriffin at 11:19 AM ON 02/06/09

The inner kid in me screams how cool it is but
my adult part immediately smacks it upside the head to remind him how stupid I would look. Actually what would get this popular is for some hip celebrity to wear it either in real life or on a TV show/movie. Then these will fly off the shelf.

There are several styles. I find these perfect for Geocaching; especially when having to put the GPS away for a short climb, or when balancing over a log bridge.
