damn, it seems i got the wrong watch for working as a test subject at Wack-A-Wrist sledgehammer producers.
By Nicole at 6:11 PM ON 01/20/09
I will remember in the future that when the crazy person swings at me with the sledgehammer that I should block with the arm that doesn't have the watch on.
By ForestRunner at 11:15 AM ON 01/21/09
I kinda agree with Nicole. If you get hit with a sledgehammer on your watch-adorned wrist, I am pretty sure that the loss of the watch will be the least of you problems.
By Sjors at 6:23 AM ON 01/22/09
The definition for Shock resistance is that it can survive a drop from 10 meters high on concrete. The amount of energy you smash into the watch is far beyond a reasonable level. The person wearing a G-Shock being confronted with such a big force would probably not be happy. Actually, for a good test, you should have strapped it on your wrist, lay it on the concrete block and then you should have hit it with a sledgehammer. I do not think you find any volunteering guinea pigs for that experiment.
Also a bit bad idea to wreck quite an expensive model.
Buzzbait did actually the same test on a G-9000 Mudman in May 2008, but used a baseball bat. The Mudman ended up quite like your Riseman.

Oh yeah. I often have to protect my watch from a sledgehammer. About once or twice a week. This is definately going on my shopping list. (Not).
By fasio at 12:20 PM ON 01/22/09
This is just dumb. I feel cheated that I wasted my time watching it. This is in no way a test of the watch's shock resistance. this is just some idiots being shamelessly wasteful and trying to get attention.
By pfcbill22 at 8:03 PM ON 01/22/09
For $1.351 million dollars you can try to smash it on my wrist. I think it would survive.
By watchmen at 8:13 PM ON 01/26/09
Man, What a piece of junk!!!
Hopefully the future models will be able to withstand a little bit o pressure.
By Mony at 8:17 PM ON 01/26/09
Rumor has that a house made out of billions of G-shocks will survive any giant meteor collision.
By valentin at 12:54 PM ON 01/27/09
it's a big clock.I don't see anywere this clock.it's a beatiful clock.
By PhillySpartan at 1:59 PM ON 01/28/09
Okay...What's wrong with this picture? It's called a G-Shock watch. Of course its not indestructible. A frakking sledgehammer? Come on now. This was worthless. It's like getting on an airplane even though the whole plane is not made of the same stuff the black boxes are made with, but we still get on the plane. This was not a fair test whatsoever. A sledgehammer? I just hope that this was made with a sense of humor and is not being taken seriously.
By bart at 10:24 AM ON 01/29/09
Used to have one of these, it was a great watch. It took being dropped 100+ feet, temps in excess of 140 deg F, -10 deg F, ruptured steam lines... I work in the field side of electric generation, and it took the proverbial pounding for five years. What killed it? A jewelry clerk at Walmart who changed the battery. I no longer wear a wrist watch, the company forbids them and I just wear a clip watch now. I wish Casio made a clip watch version of the G-Shock, I go through about one a month.
By Gshocked at 6:11 PM ON 01/29/09
But you still haven't answered the big question!
Will it blend?
Thanks for nothing...
By Stratomaster at 12:03 AM ON 01/31/09
This was stupid and juvenile! Get someone that is a little older than 12 to do a REAL report on the products and whoever did this report should be fired. It was a waste of time and bandwith. If i see anymore of this crap i will no longer use this section of scifi.com.
By Jazz at 7:47 AM ON 02/01/09
I am so glad most of the people that produce these foolish vids are still in school completing their educations...that is actually and IMPACT in fact a “critical impact”,...... NOT “motion shock”. Some day the light might just turn on in their little brains! BTW that is a figurative expression for those with the sledgehammer running around looking for the light cord.
By Scopeman at 12:37 PM ON 02/02/09
Actually, if you did this test with the watch on someones wrist it would probably survive as the compression of the flesh/bone structure would eliminate much on the force of the impact before the watch was destroyed. The watch is far more shock-proof that a human wrist - it stands to reason the wrist will fail first.
The two key lessons from this appear to be:
- do not wear your watch on a brick, but instead to wear it correctly on your wrist
- avoid idiots with sledgehammers and video cameras trying pass themselves of as product testers
By stevekoz at 10:13 AM ON 02/05/09
I totally agree with scopeman do the test with the watch on a balistics jel wrist. it will survive.
By vincentphoto at 11:57 AM ON 02/05/09
Might have been a bit more impressive if the watch had been hit by the hammer head and not the handle! Check it out frame by frame
By jwbones1 at 3:32 AM ON 02/09/09

When i started watching this I was like " is it really going to be able to withstand the sledgehammer?" I very quickly found out the answer. lol

good video for casio
By Cutlass80r2 at 3:21 AM ON 02/17/09
The amount of people who seem to think this was serious is freaking HILARIOUS!!!
Yeah, a little wristwatch - ON A BRICK - might withstand a sledgehammer impact! LOL... Did you really have to watch the vid to find out? And you call the videographers foolish! ;-)

I own a G-Shock and to my knowledge and to this day I have never encountered a sledgehammer meeting my wrist that my watch has been on, thankfully enough. But really though this video was just plain "Dumb" almost as smart as those people who went in and purchased an X-Box 360, went out into the parking lot and proceeded to smash same X-Box 360 with a sledgehammer also, perhaps the same group..?, No..?..:P
By thomcat00 at 3:49 PM ON 02/18/09
I have a G-Shock and while it survived my daily abuse, it failed to survive a battery change. The little flange switches that get pushed by the buttons got damaged the last time I changed the batts and now none of them respond. I have to take apart the watch to change modes, etc. Tough enough for a car crash but not tough enough to swap a cell and adjust the time.
By voyager1713 at 10:31 PM ON 02/26/09
I have a G-Shock. It survives all my daily abuse also. I used to go through a watch every 3 months with all of the magnetic fields I deal with at work. I figured I would bypass the changing the battery problem by getting the solar type. Deactivate the auto illuminate and the battery power never drops. Thanks for wasting 30 seconds of my life and a very nice watch, damn 12 year olds :(
By UFOpilot at 12:13 PM ON 03/08/09
What a waste of perfectly great equipment. Doesn't this guy have anything better to do than to destroy a watch???!!!!! And with the way the economy is now?????!!!!!!!!
By Firenza at 7:32 AM ON 03/10/09
Wow, that was a total waste of time!
and what a waste of a watch, those things are damn expencive, and you just smashed it!
I hope one day your maybe unemployed, and running short of cash, and the thought of blowing $20 on something frivilous is out of the question, that you remember the days when you smashed a $200 watch for a stupid 30 second video.
Maybe next time youll give the money to charity instead, god knows they could use it!
By ZLOK at 11:36 PM ON 03/15/09
UFOPILOT: How exactly is your economy now? Mine is fine, why is the economy a matter?
Nice video, I liked it. I just proves that no man made device yet can withstand enough kinetic force.
I never had a G-Shock, all wristwatches I had died within a week, I guess I do too much tumbling to wear a wrist watch.
And for everyone who boo'ed the video: You're just giving them more attention, if indeed you want people like this to stop wasting your time, ignore them, and stop wasting your time yourself.
By Belliscoldwine at 12:50 PM ON 03/18/09
I was in the process of getting one of these Riseman babies, whoa! what a waste, I don't get the point .. what's it saying man? Perhaps it should have been strapped to his head and hit, would make a more colourful vid!
By Dethrot at 2:55 AM ON 03/21/09
I will agree with 99.9% of the people who have bothered to comment on this. This was just a dumb show of force.
By Bleh at 7:05 AM ON 04/02/09
Does it really matter how shock resitant anything is if you hit it with a sledgehammer it is almost certain its gonna explode into 3 million pieces, next time try a camry and whack it on its roof lets see what happens....
By SAB at 10:30 PM ON 04/05/09
Stupid people doing stupid things with perfectly good tech (both the wristwatch and the sledgehammer).
By Sht_Kkr at 6:19 PM ON 04/14/09
SO thinking about it if the watch was on your wrist and it was hit with a sledgehammer i think that the watch would actually end up surviving the blow.... your wrist would act as a cushion and absorb most of the shock and dispersing it out the watch would prolly just have a few scratches
By BLACKOUT at 8:01 AM ON 04/16/09
I think watch faces the sledge hammer well bcs there is jst couple f broke ups on the watch bt sledge hammer cn produce more pwr bcs f its mass, and the speed it swing on to the watch. so i dont think it would b practicle 2 create that much amount of Force to a single object in an ordinary life style so this is jst a joke 4m sm fools. this is vandalism .
By mike at 7:28 PM ON 04/20/09
Looks more like an Idiot test to me. A lot like watching the Myth Busters and the faulty logic they use. That was an impact test stupid not a shock test.
