Who says Star Wars gets to have all the LEGO-fun? At BrickCon (a gathering for adults who still play with LEGO) in Seattle last October, LEGO maven Ryan Wood organized the first Battlestar Galactica (BSG) Viper fly-in, and look at the awesome result.
In the gallery below, check out the huge collection of 35 Vipers, Raptors, Cylon raiders, and custom minifigs, all ensconced in a 13-foot hanger and spilling out onto assorted tables. There are even fire-damaged and Black Fantasy-infected models. It's just downright mind-boggling!

omg this is awesome! I love BSG and who does not like legos? Thanks for this article!!
By MRA at 5:30 PM ON 01/26/09
Like the legos; like the BSG theme; HATE the interface on this page. Clicking on the next link reloads the whole page instead of just using javascript to change the large image. Takes forever. Simple javascript would fix this!

now this... makes me smile

Nice pictures....
But please fix the pictures as per MRA, I sometimes avoid stories with pictures because of the reload setup.

This is what it's all about folks! So say we all! my son Phillip and I love to create and treasure our Legos, and although he's a little too young to be watching Battlestar right now (he's only 8), he has a healthy imagination and a true love of all things scifi. Thanks for sparking his imagination and adding to my joy over BSG!

Does anyone have a link to the plans to build these. I love legos but am not skillfull enough with them to make one from scratch.
By chief_rw at 9:09 PM ON 01/27/09
Nilus- Unfortunately the best I can do for you is the original photos and a few breakdown pics. We never had instructions, so every builder's Viper varies a little bit from every other as they "filled in the blanks" on their own.

We are the guys doing the Battlestar auctions, and we would love the guys doing these Legos to come to our next Live Auction in May. Can anyone help put me in touch with these guys?

These are awesome!! I can only do legos with the instructions but I have some Star Wars ones. Would love to see these produced.

BSG in ANY incarnation is BOOOOORING! Pleople, you all need to get over this horribly bad show.
By YYYYYYY at 8:22 AM ON 01/30/09
ZZZZZZZ...Your INSANE!!! BSG is the BEST show on TV right now!!!! And anyone who does not think so has not given any time to watching. Both fans and CRITICS agree!!! Read any magazine you'd like to find out the show's ratings. So how about keeping the negative comments to yourself.
By the way, LOVE the lego vipers!!! Hope the companys can come together and produce these models with plans.

anyone have instructions on how to make one of these? I'm not crafty enough to figure out the build on my own
By Paolo at 1:46 AM ON 01/31/09
Make your own design! Heck I had Lego vipers when I was 10 (I'm 41 now). They were simple, had square engines and flat wings, but that's just where you start. Keep trying and make one better. Can you tell I'm a teacher? Sorry. I should say that I am pretty lucky htat I got to experience BSG at two perfect times of my life. My poor son (he's 4) He'll never understand.

Chief_RW, From your response, I realize that there are no detailed instructions, but where do you start, with a Star Wars lego set? I'm not familiar with legos but would like to build a viper! Thanks!

@Propworx
CHIEF_RW (Ryan Wood)is the guy who organized us in building this display. He should be able to put you in touch with any/all of the builders who were involved in this. You should be able to contact him through his flickr link in his user name.

Thanks Danlegoman! I found more images on flickr and backtracked to various other sites and found some images of partially assembled Vipers and even Andrew's assembly sequence. I'm beginning to understand how to build one. I do have a basic question: the Vipers in the pictures appear to all be about the same size; how long are they in inches or studs (I saw a passing reference to 15 studs)?

I would buy this lego set if they actually produced it...I mean what BSG fan wouldn't because who didn't grow up with Legos?
