Sonic Nausea makes everyone around you sick

sn_med.jpgWell, this is a revolting development. Now some dweeb can carry around a $29 device that literally makes you sick. Sure, we've seen a lot of gadgets that make us sick, but this one does it for real. As the story goes, you simply attach this tiny circuit board to a 9-volt battery, and suddenly everyone within about 30 feet starts getting that seasick feeling, maybe even spontaneously throwing up. Yuck.

Whether its ultra-high frequency sound waves really work is not quite certain, but we have heard of the military dabbling in sound emitters that can cause nausea, immediate bowel evacuation, or even liquefy living flesh. So maybe this inner-ear-tweaking thingamajig could work. That said, please, young pranksters who like to secretly use gadgets that cause controversy, don't bring one of these to CES.

I can see people using things like this to get revenge on people that have made them mad...
If you added a little timed on/off switch it could go undiscovered for a quite a long time

I plan on carrying one of these around with me all the time. What a great way to go home sick from work! Or even better, put one in the bosses desk and enjoy a vacation at work. (Just don't get too close.)

I seriously doubt this thing works. If it was capable of effecting everything in a 30 foot radius with just a 9 volt battery, it would be possible to increase the area of effect and severity of symptoms by cranking up the power. So, why aren't police and/or military using a weaponized verseion of this? Because it doesn't work.

huh! huh! He said "immediate bowel evacuation". That's cool!

Wow, if this is true to life it would make an awesome non-lethal weapon for police. Kinda like the "sick sticks" from Minority Report.

Let's just say it does work as Dvice is conveying it does. Now let's thank Dvice for advertising this thing to the masses so that even more idiots can get their hands on one and disrupt public well being. So, whether it works or not is irrelevant. Dvice is repeating the sales pitch and either creating a bunch of delinquents or making this company a bunch of cash by helping them sell a disingenuous product. Either way, it's disappointing.

Was this idea tested by the military? Yes. Is it viable? No. There is no such thing as the "brown note" as it was so affectionately referred to as.

By flanker at 8:38 AM ON 12/04/08

I'm surprised noones mentioned that they tested for this kind of thing on Mythbusters.
