Here's a smart shower head that stops wasting hot water. The Evolve shower head uses ShowerStart technology, stopping the flow to a mere trickle as soon as the water gets hot enough. Instead of 2.5 gallons of hot water going down the drain every minute (or more if you have overclocked shower heads like we do, or a multi-head shower), ShowerStart waits for you to flip a switch or pull a cord, and then begins the flow of the hot water.
The company says ShowerStart could save 2,700 gallons of hot water each year, saving $80 off your utility bill. And it does that without electricity, using a patented temperature sensing actuator to stop the flow when the water reaches 95 degrees. The tech is inside all the company's showerheads, available in a variety of configurations. If you want to save some water and energy, this sure beats using a lame low-flow showerhead.

Most places treat and make clean the water you used, so there is no such thing as wasted water. People with septic tanks return water back to the ground after it filters through the tank, so no water is wasted.
What is a waste is to constantly make and remake the same product over and over inspiring people to buy redundant products. Capitalism is the biggest waste of all time.

@alderian
If you paid for the water and paid for the energy that heated it then you're wasting money when it's going down the drain.

Hey I have an idea that won't make you need to replace your old shower head and still save almost as much:
Turn the knob to WARM, the water will warm up enough for you to be willing to step in, then feel free to turn the knob to even hotter.
The silly product assumes we turn our water knobs all the way to hot and hang out (litterally) outside the shower until it gets hot. Thus wasting lots of hot water.
Anyone who doesn't act like that does not need this product. It will save you very little otherwise.

Anonymous: The amount of showerheads which have been made, with probably tons never purchased, and all the energy that went into producing them, when most everyone has a showerhead which will function, perhaps for their entire life, negates your point.
Yogurt: You make a good point.

I've found that this works: i get warm water circulating via my bathroom sink. It uses lots lets GPM than the shower. In other words, I turn my bathroom sink to warm/hot (for brushing my teeth, to be specific) and that means there's just about 10 seconds of wait time for the shower to get up to speed.
