Scintillating 3D lamps built of electroluminescent wire and mirrors

sconces_front.jpg

Marcus Tremento is has an original lighting idea here. He's created LD Sconces, intriguing lighting fixtures that conjure up uncanny 3D effects with glowing wire. Bending neon-like pieces of cool-running electroluminescent wire into familiar shapes and then combining them with a mirror-like backdrop, the artist proves himself to be quite the illusionista.

Those rings of light just go half-way around — the other half is just their reflection. Remarkable. Check out the gallery below and see what Marcus does with other shapes, such as globes and chandeliers. No pricing is noted, and these works of art are only available in limited editions of 20, so they're bound to be pricey.

Cool designs.

How well do the EL wires maintain their shape once mounted (or is some sort of wire mount required to hold the shape)? I assume drilling holes in the mirrors isn't too difficult?

Thanks for sharing.
