Nintendo Wii to start offering downloadable videos

wiisystem.jpgNintendo is finally clamoring on board the video on demand bandwagon. With the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 already offering robust downloadable video services, it was only a matter of time before the Wii began offering videos as well.

Nintendo just announced that, at least in Japan, the Wii will offer up both free and pay videos. Of course, since the Wii isn't HD the videos aren't going to be as high-quality as those offered by Sony and Microsoft, but many more people have Wiis than do Xboxes and Playstations, so this may be a good way to introduce people to downloadable video in the living room.

im not fond of this. i like how nintendo seemed to be putting all resources into just gaming. it could be the next evolution in gaming, but i was hoping nintendo could keep the tradition of concentrating on gaming. not joining the HD format battle or deciding what movies to give ad space. "we need more downloadable content. there are still people who are able to save disc-game material on the console hard drive without buying memory cards." nintendo was my haven from this madness. where we ol' timer gamers could remember the simplicity that gaming *can* be. now yes, i have an Underworld background and user pic on Xbox LIVE and give some kind of damn about my achievements. but nintendo and the Wii remind me that all this extra stuff is complication as much as advancement.

maybe im part of a dying generation of gamers. from the "tribal" days, as some insulting internet people would say. but maybe u new gamers at least will listen to what ur elders have to say.
