Holograms in a box now available to rich showoffs

holocube.jpgHolograms! They're the wave of the future, I guess! These mostly-useless doodads that dominated futurism in the last century are finally becoming a reality, although we aren't quite sure what to do with them. Sure, CNN showed off its mastery of holograms during election night, but what benefit did it provide? Not much. And now, you can own a hologram in a box for some reason.

The Holocube 3D is a little box that can show holograms. It comes in 10-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch varieties, loaded up with a 40GB hard drive to store your 3D images and video. The starting price is a whopping $9,000, which is pretty steep for something with almost no practical uses. I mean, where do you even get the 3D video you'd need to make this thing worthwhile? Maybe next century we'll find a use for these things.

Think medical applications, viewing the patient's vital organs in 3D while operating.

Hell, I could use it now for reconstructing fossils, which are usually broken and squashed and can be hard to tell from the rock. Right now we use 3D imaging software, but we are still looking at it on a 2D screen. It just doesn't match being able to see it in real 3D.

Use? one ord: porn

well t.v.s started as little boxes that showed moving pictures, i'd imagine the same would have been said for them, these things could be a whole new concept for home entertainment.

The future has come
