Cowon S9 Curve, the personal media player of the future, to ship this month

cowon_s9_front.jpg

No, this is not some vaporous design concept. It's the Cowon S9 Curve, a portable media player that will actually be available in the U.S. sometime this month. Setting it apart is its 3.3-inch AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) touchscreen, the sharpest and most-efficient screen tech to date. With its 480 x 272 widescreen resolution, it should be a tack-sharp display, especially at that small size.

While we'll probably just keep using our iPhones for video and audio on the go, the curved sexiness of the Cowon S9 is tempting. Adding more fuel to our desire is its dual-core 500MHz processor inside, a choice of 8GB or 16GB capacities, voice recorder, Bluetooth, and even an FM radio. Add to that its AMOLED screen of the future and Cowon's usually reasonable pricing, and this could be a big winner, putting serious pressure on the Archos players, and especially the iPod Touch.

Let's not forget the fact that Cowon has the reputation of being the premier (albeit a bit underground) choice for audiophiles and sound freaks. I have a pair of top quality Shure headphones and am a bit of an audiophile myself, and since I bought the D2, I simply cannot listen to any other player (with few exceptions, but the iPod is certainly not on this list of exceptions) without having to put it down and go back to my D2. The incredibly accurate and balanced sound reproduction combined with the amazing customizability of the sound (a bevy of sound enhancement features and a 5 band equalizer with adjustable presets and even the ability to select which frequency ranges are controlled) along with the ability to save any enhancement/equalizer combination as a preset make Cowon simply the king when it comes to sound quality.

Yes, I totally agree. The ultimate sound quality is to be found in a Cowon!

I'll believe it when I see/hear one. It's December already. Where can I buy one?
