New Star Trek prequel trailer now online

startrek_prequel2.jpg

The next Star Trek movie is on the way, depicting Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), McCoy (Karl Urban) and all the others in their youth, and leading up to the first voyages of the Starship Enterprise. You'll have to wait until May 8, 2009 to see the whole movie, but an exciting new trailer was just made available for your perusal.

If you have the hardware and bandwidth, be sure to download the 1080p version (labeled "Trailer 2," Trailer 1 is more tease than preview), showing some of the first publicly released footage in all its high-rez glory. So far, this Star Trek, the Original Series (TOS) prequel looks like a winner!

I KNOW I KNOW i havent see the movie yet, but it LOOKS like all flash and no substance.

Budgethero, Wouldn't that be akin to saying, "Cloverfield looks like there's shaky camera work. I know I know, I haven't seen the movie, but it looks amateur and poorly acted." ?

The general purpose of a trailer is to sell you on the flick without telling you the entire story. Of course it's going to look flashy, it's bloody Star Trek.

I am totally confused! I never saw/heard anything about this new Star Trek movie coming out but am now seeing info on the internet. They all state the movie was supposed to come out in late 2008 but the date was then moved to May 2009.

Today, people are talking about how great the trailer is and can't wait for the movie to come out.

Is the movie out or not????

The more I see of this the worse it gets. Whoever greenlighted this project after seeing the script was a fool (or maybe not since his aim was surely to make a ton of cash). From what I've seen in the trailers it completly ignores the complex story already there. If Abrams wanted to do his own space epic he should have used his own material rather than screwing up someone elses.

You know, you shouldn't be so quick to judge. I've seen tons of movies that have flashy trailers but the actual movie ends up being great. People can't just live on the stereotype that every modernized prequel is horrible.

i dont know. so much looks so drastically changed, similar, yet veeeerrrry off. the outside of the enterprise is spot on, but the insides look .... gaudy. that's wat i mean about flashy. the bridge is so blindingly bright white. and the hallways....look like they came out of star wars, there, i said it.

People already know what the Constitution-class NCC-1701 USS Enterprise looked like. They already know how Kirk and Spock behave together.

There may be a prequel story to be told, but re-invention and disparate execution is going to be glaring. Star wars fans know that, as well. Jar-Jar Binks comes to mind.

Production values are fantastic, and all, but changing the original Roddenberry premise, or platform is not going to be well received.

Sorry, Trekies, this looks just flat out awesome!

and as for my "all flash and no substance" comment: what's the story? i dont want a full beginning middle and end but i still have no idea whats going on. this trailer shows some sex, fights, and high speed whatnot. but tells me nothing. if it does SAY something, what is it. i as a treky want to know that this is an intelligent movie. this trailer doesnt assure me of anything more then the effects budget.
