Dream car drag race pits GM's best Corvette ZR-1 against world class competition
Everyone's bashing GM these days. But the company has a few bright spots. Case in point: see what happens when you pit the company's fastest car, the 638-hp Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 against three of the fastest fancy-schmancy chariots from foreign countries. In a straight-line drag race, see who's your daddy, you Ferrari 599 GTB, Nissan GT-R and the Porsche 911 GT2. Ha.
When we hear talk of GM going away, we think of some faceless corporation cranking out bulky, gas-guzzling SUVs to fewer and fewer buyers. But then we see GM's Corvette ZR-1, a marvel of engineering achievement, leaving the likes of Ferrari in its dust, and we think, isn't there some way to save U.S. car companies from their own idiot bosses?

So it goes fast in a straight line. Whoop de do. What I want to know is, how does it handle? Will it win on a road track? How would it fare at the Nürburgring? Why am I the only person born in the US that sees through the straight line crap?

Beowuff, as an AutoX racer myself. I laugh when a new guy comes in is giant muscle car with 500+hp and wonders why he gets beat by cars with 100-150hp.
Strait line is great until you get to that first corner...

LOL! My cars faster than yours (so long as I don't have to turn the wheel). Don't forget that the Nissan is speed limited too.
There was a good comparison on a recent episode of Top Gear. (They actually didn't think the yank tank was too bad, all things considered).

How does it handle? How good is it on a track? Hmmm, if corvettes were so crappy why do they stomp in LeMans? Granted, there is only one other car in GT1 but they womp on even prototype cars.
As far as autocross goes, fast drivers, not fast cars. That doesn't mean that corvettes are slow, the guy that got honorable mention at the last event lost fast time of the day to an FSAE car by .007 seconds in a '71 stingray.
The thing that I find incredible is that all of those other cars got beat by a 16V push-rod V8. There is something to be said about engine design rather than fancy features (forced induction has been around forever it just hasn't been practical until recently)

The Zr-1 is decent around the corners it has pretty good suspension but notice the numbers the most powerful engine is the ZR-1 followed by the ferrari with 612HP(if i remember correctly) OF COURSE the more powerful ZR-1 would win its a 'duh' factor. american cars are mainly built for the straight line i bet you can get a modified merc amg that has over 1000 torque knock that Zr-1 out.

Here's the link for the ZR1's cornering prowess at Nurburgring...(driven by a GM engineer to boot)

It's time was broken by the ACR Viper not long after, but it still smoked iron costing thousands more.

I think the vette happened to be the most attractive of all those shown.

Maybe you people should read about a car before bashing it
The ZR1 CAN turn corners, it is the second fastest production car around the Nurburgring, thats pretty cool, Edmunds tested it, 74.7-mph pass through the slalom, second fastest they have ever recorded (Porsche 911 GT3 RS)
And it has the best braking they have ever tested, 60mph to 0 in 96 feet
And th skidpad wasn't to bad either 1.06 average, with a peak of 1.1g's, second only to the viper acr
damn impressive car, you can bash the interior qaulity for a $100,000+ car, but bashing its performace ability proves ignorance
