Record-breaking world's fastest car to rocket beyond 1,000mph

Get out of the way, everybody, because here comes Bloodhound, the world's fastest car. The British-designed Bloodhound SSC (supersonic car) was unveiled in London today, with plans for a record-breaking supersonic run in 2011. The 42-foot land rocket will reach Mach 1.4 when it blasts across an as-yet undetermined desert, zipping along at a speed that's literally faster than a speeding bullet.

It'll reach that blistering speed with a huge kick from both a Eurojet EJ200 jet engine and a Falcon hybrid rocket engine. Their combined 47,000 lb. of thrust will propel the $16.2 million carbon fiber and titanium vehicle to its top speed of 1050mph in a mere 40 seconds.

How will it feel to go that fast on land? According to speed record-breaking driver/fighter pilot and mathematician Andy Greene, who will be at the wheel when the Bloodhound makes its record-breaking attempt, "It's going to be quite uncomfortable."

Invent a car that's fast enough to run on water and I mean a car. Not a boat or a ship, a car.

"Faster than a speeding bullet"

I always though these things were idiotic. It's not a car. It's a rocket fired horizontally with some wheels bolted on for looks. It's one of the more pointless record breaking endeavors out there. Every film I've seen of the real "cars", the damn thing flies through half of its run. It's not a land speed record if you're not on the land! Stupid waste of time. How about spending that engineering effort on a practical electric car for the masses, or some other idea that's useful to humanity? Oh, sorry, is that not sexy enough? Fools.

well, advances in these cars aren't purely ego-centric to speed demons. they also contribute the aerodynamics research, which help design cars so that they don't resist the air as much on the highway. therefore, using less gas to go forward. also, NASA may be able to benefit from the rocket bits' research and development.

and also, don't ask why a speed deamon or an adrenalin junky does what they do. we often don't have the explanation in worlds. and even if we do, it's either "'cause it's fun!" or something long and philosophical that equally won't answer your question.

The only fool is the one whose vision stops just beyond his nose

"It's going to be quite uncomfortable."

That's quite funny.

thats slowwwww!!

НАХУЯ?

привет, БД!

Ещё б гусеницы к ракете приделали...

thats quite fast, next shud b a 4 seater vehicle that can run on normal roads at that speed

What kind of gas mileage does it get?

how is a rocket going to break the world record you have to hit the top speed and turn around and hit it again within a hour to break the record thats why the thrust ssc has two jet engines they wont burn out. with this they have to change the rocket eng within a hour to get the record and then its not one car its two peices wont be on first run itll have to add rocket on the return trip

nice car hope you make a other one good luck
