Repliee R-1 child robot makes rare appearance, scares adults

bbybot832.jpgDeveloped a few years ago by the roboticists at Osaka University, the Repliee R-1 robot made a rare public appearance at last week's CEATEC conference in Tokyo. Sporting a silicon skin and utilizing 50 sensors, the tiny robot was designed to mimic the appearance and movements of a 5 year-old child.

While the effect of the child-bot is decidedly more hauntingly creepy than cute (see video here), the sister of the previous Repliee Q-1 reminds us that we are probably just a decade or so away from having these kinds of humanoid robots walking our streets and giving us real nightmares.

Seriously, how the hell can it scare adults? You guys know that the days coming when you wont have to sit at your computer in Japan, watching "Paradise TV," because there will be $10,000 robobot replicas of Jenna Jameson you can have as your house made and (fill in the blank).

...this is only a pedophile version of what's to come. They start small, then grow up.

So don't complain guys, it wont be long before you can finally get off your lazyboy chairs and have that hot girl from high school you always dreamed about. Of course, there might be the one day where she malfunctions and snips something off of you...just a warning.

Chris, please only comment when you can contribute something worth reading. - This is a step forward in robotic technology. Technology; which is the focus of this entire website. Also, something you seem blatantly ignorant of. I haven't figured out why you're even here.

ummmmm...ahh...thats interesting.
