Next-gen HD Wii rumored to be slated for 2011

wii27.jpgThe Nintendo Wii is still insanely popular as we approach its two year anniversary, but that doesn't mean Nintendo is sitting on its laurels. No, they're thinking about the future and planning on the Wii's successor already.

The upcoming console, tentatively referred to as the "Wii HD," is said to be based on entirely new hardware that will pump out HD visuals, contain expanded storage and run using digitally distributed content rather than physical discs, which is something widely rumored for all of the next-gen consoles. It's said to be on the slate for 2011, which sounds about right to us. But hey, let's not get too excited: the Wii still has some shelf life to it yet.

2011 and still using disks for game distribution?

Why is this news? Nintendo is pretty good about keeping to a five-year life cycle for their consoles.

why in the world would having the physical disks be a bad thing? i mean how easy is it for a virus to wipe ur hard spent money from a hardrive. i had a computer that was attacked by several viruses, and had so many things lost to reformat: amv's, game save files, stories i wrote on the computer, pictures, all gone forever. and none of those i paid for. after those experiences, i have big gaping canyon sized doubts about digital distribution as a main distribution method.

who the hell thinks that downloaded games with no hard copy is a good idea? I'll tell you: a dumbass. All it takes is one accidental click or one malfunction in the hard drive and all your games and money are gone. Don't think it can happen? It happened to ME. Damned hard drive corrupted on my 360. Sure, I got a new one, but all my downloaded games and game saves are gone. So shut up about this crappy "download everything" idea. It's stupid, risky, and a hassle. Plus, what if I don't feel like playing online? What if I Just want to play a game without having to subscribe to one the 8 compatible networks in th entire country? You saying that I should have to shell out $50 a month so I can pay for more games that could end up corrupting? Idiots.
