Video rental-by-mail company Netflix decided to do the only thing needed to make its "watch instantly" service perfect: stream the video in HD. First up is the Xbox 360, where the Netflix HD streaming service will begin in three weeks — November 19th. That coincides with the overhaul of the Xbox 360's user interface, featuring cartoonish avatars and a revised menu system.
The sketchy details of the breakthrough upgrade put 300 HD streaming titles available on the Xbox 360 at the "soft launch," but there was no word about their resolution or quality, which movies would be offered, pricing, or anything else.
We have to think (hope) that soon we'll be enjoying Netflix HD streaming movies on the excellent Roku Netflix box (which is HD-ready), Samsung and LG Netflix-ready Blu-ray players, and the Netflix "watch instantly" service viewed through Internet Explorer.

I think this is an awesome idea and NetFlix is doing a GREAT job of making innovative additions to their company. They certainly are starting to play some serious hard ball.

Well, from what I know, I'll not be able to use this service. Apparently it ONLY uses Vista, and I don't have, nor plan on getting Vista. I have a 2 year old Laptop and Microsoft's OWN program tells me that I can't run Vista.
Oh well, great idea, but I can't use it.

apparently someone named woostiwa didn't read the article... this is about the xbox 360....
but besides that.... Netflix is available on Macs now....so the guy is a double idiot...

Out of curiousity... exactly how is this different from PPV?

Hello Mavalcar. Not a double idiot, the people at Netflix are. Their own web page previously stated that a PC and an Xbox 360 would be needed. The article clearly stated that a Vista only PC, an Xbox 360, and a gold account would be needed. Apparently the PC was going to be used in addition to the Xbox in the original plans. And how can I be an idiot with regard to the Mac. I don't own a Mac, so how does it being on the Mac as well affect me, a PC user, who can't use Vista?
