The grand prize winners of the recent Seoul Design Competition, Kim Woo-sik and Jun Yoo-ho of Korea's Konkuk University, inadvertently brought firefighting into the realm of sci-fi. Their creation is called the Life Pebble, a device that straps to the back of a firefighter and releases fluorescent pebble-like objects that help the firefighter find his way back out of a smoke-filled building. Despite the humorous human waste implied metaphor, and the device's resemblance to NOMAD, this is probably going to save lives in the future.

How practical are little balls? Wouldn't they roll away? And what if the way out is somehow obstructed? I think the future will probably be some kind of gps via blueprint technology, but that may be a bit further down the road!
