In a rush to build the maximum number of gigantic and magnificent skyscrapers before the oil runs out, Dubai is at it again. Just look at this 2150-foot monster, the Anara Tower, scheduled to be built next year. The skyscraper will be about 500 feet shorter than the world's tallest building — the Burj Dubai located nearby and nearly complete — but it'll still be one of the most massive structures ever built.
Designed by the British Atkins Design Studio, the Anara Tower will be home to offices, 300 of the most expensive apartments in the world, and a 250-room luxo-hotel. The tower will have a tremendous atrium in the middle and gardens every 27 floors. Topping the structure will be a crazy-looking propeller-like structure, where the hub of those spokes will house a glass capsule containing one of the most swank restaurants in the world. And no, it does not revolve.
Holy moly. This is fantastic. The most amazing feat will be if construction actually begins on schedule late next year, even with oil prices in freefall. That could change, but if not, maybe the Dubai titans of the United Arab Emirates who are building such wonders have fat savings accounts somewhere.

Arguably is right. I think it looks like an air-purifier out of shrper image.

The building is nicely designed, but the very slight asymetrical nature of the building is bothering my slight obsessive compulsive tendencies.

it looks like it has a windmill on the top.
I think it looks nice...would like to see a side view though...

It will be located near Dubai Marina and should have a nice view of Nakheel Harbour Tower in the future.

That thing on top is a liquidity turbine, powered by oil money, which it distributes into the Arabian Gulf at billions per second.

Look a giant wurlitzer!! Amuse me with the gift of wondorous music! but seriously would YOU want to live in a skyscraper built on sand? thats some fancy engineering for sure!
By Stringendo at 1:05 PM ON 10/31/08
Yup, I'm happy to argue against that one. What a ludicrous heading! On what possible basis could this be included on anyone's list of the most beautiful buildings in the world? The biggest d**k-substitute in the world, maybe, but that doesn't equate to beauty.

I happen to think Dubai is doing a great job of turning their city into one of the hottest places to be in the world. They're really making some smart moves.

"Giant prestige-scrapers apparently borrowed from Coruscant" should be a slideshow topic at an SF convention -- there are enough of them in the Gulf states and southeast Asia nowadays.
"Liquidity turbine," LOL. It looks to me more like a handheld anemometer than a Wurlitzer. Also, Anara was the name of a minor Bajoran character on "Deep Space 9." (The name appears on the architect's website, atkins-me.com, but Dvice's source urbanity.es truncates it to "Anar.")

arguably not even close to the most beautiful buildings in the world (built or unbuilt)...and that fake wind turbine is a joke.

Looks pretty scary to me...I mean, it doesn't look safe, because it's kinda thin...I can't imagine what would happen to it during an earthquake...

well, the building is very unique. it is nicely designed!
