Amazon just rolled out Windowshop, giving us a peek at the web shopping environment of the future. It looks simply gorgeous, similar to the iTunes Cover Flow where album covers float by in graceful 3D. Amazon populates its Windowshop site with its most popular books, movies and music.
Besides the smooth navigation, the neat thing about this is the trailers/demos that start playing when you select an item. It's a good beginning, and especially appropriate for browsing, but when you're looking for something specific, well, it's not quite there yet.
We like it. We can imagine this cool concept evolving way beyond its current interface, someday including 360-degree walkarounds of products, video comments and reviews, and maybe even trying on clothes by mapping graphics of those garments onto a 3D model of yourself.

At http://enjoy3d.com you can find a 3d Bookstore, 3D toystore, several 3D art and poster stores, a 3D tshirt store (2 floors), and a 3D Flickr Gallery (just for fun) that are more immersive than Amazon’s WindowShop

If I wanted something as "immersive" as enjoy3d.com I would go to a real shop instead...
Amazons offering is much better in my opinion.

This is interesting. It looks like amazon recently has been beefing up their options; an attempt to capitalize on the quivering market created by this economic downturn.
