Amazing Star Wars (and Star Trek) origami made from dollar bills

falcon_main.jpg

Hawaii resident Won Park's origami first got our attention with his One Dollar Camera. Then we started browsing through his work online, and we discovered a treasure trove of pictures of his origami projects, including paper versions of the Millennium Falcon and the Starship Enterprise. The most amazing thing about them is that they're all made from real money — the Falcon alone is made from three individual dollar bills. That's $497 cheaper than the LEGO version, at least.

Browse the gallery below for more delicious sci-fi origami. We can't wait for Park's next project — the Firefly-class vessel from Serenity.

where are the instructions? I want proof that there weren't just cut and pasted together. I also want to make my own.

Cool but questionable origami. Several bills used in each. For instructions see here: Step 1, fold into sixths. Step 2, cut away everything as needed.

I wish I had that much time and $$$ on my hands.

The use of several bills is OK. However, I'm intrigued by the scissors part...

ArcticStigma, Star Trek is relegated to parenthetical inclusion because nobody cares about Star Trek.

By GROOV at 5:04 PM ON 10/28/08

I have a friend the makes these things all the time.
I had him make me a klingon bird of prey out of a piece of posterboard, I still have it.

By Unique Gift Ideas at 2:16 PM ON 10/29/08

This is really cool! If one could figure out how to recreate the, they'd be some repetitively cheap and cool gifts for friends.

By rradiko at 6:50 AM ON 10/30/08

Amazing, meticulous work -- precision folding, advanced sense of geometry, topology, mechanical and rotation skills. A steady hand and nimble fingertips. Not for everyone, that's for sure! And yes, I agree... they would make great gifts!

By pfft at 1:50 PM ON 10/30/08

"Then we started browsing through his work online..."

Maybe when you grow up to be a real boy you'll learn how to link to sites on the whole big world wide web all by yourself.

By acoop1701 at 12:25 AM ON 10/31/08

Wow... and I thought making a bow tie out of a dollar bill was cool. I've been put to shame...

By bff at 6:52 PM ON 11/02/08

HEA DUMMIES, THIS IS 100% REAL! WON HAS BEEN MY BEST FRIEND FOR ABOUT 8 YEARS. HE IS A PATIENT ARTEST, AND SPENDS TIME IFO THE TV, OR IN BETWEEN CUSTOMERS AT HIS 12 HR. A DAY JOB INVENTING THESE. I HAVE WATCHED HIM DESIGN THESE, AND THAT IS WHY THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS. NO GLUE, OR TAPE, JUST ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF TALENT. HE'S BEEN A GUEST AT ORIGAMI CONVENTIONS IN NEW YORK, AND AROUND THE US.

By SonOfJorEL at 1:41 PM ON 11/03/08

Cool stuff! Where the hell is Vanessa?

By jimmy at 12:10 PM ON 11/05/08

Could we get proof this is real? maybe an instructional video.

Cuz for now, since there is no evidence, I am confident these is fake - as in not real origami and/or photo-edited.

By BOB at 5:42 PM ON 11/10/08

Hey just because your jealous doesn't give you a right to call it fake

By dragon98 at 9:15 PM ON 11/11/08

$TAR WARS!

By Chris at 11:08 PM ON 12/01/08

Wow I'm surprised to see the number of haters on here...it's sad.

Awesome work though. Although I'm not a fan of Star Wars/Trek I can surely appreciate good art when I see it!

By Funky-Facts at 3:48 PM ON 01/31/09

Wow thats wicked, I've only ever made a water bomb from a note before.

By monkeygirl1103 at 8:35 PM ON 02/22/09

By Basisrente at 12:50 PM ON 03/24/09

@ Dave you get it! Nice comment! time+money... lol

By ColdRicePudding at 3:31 PM ON 04/27/09

Theres a tutorial on how to make a tie bomber here:

http://funky-facts.blogspot.com/2009/02/tie-bomber-origami.html

Good luck!

By ayeinfidel at 9:51 AM ON 11/18/09

wow ! i am equally amazed at the ignorance of the non artists. lacking credibility in this mans work is one thing but putting him down because he "has a lot of time in his hands", beats all! i wonder what some of these critics do with their extra time: keeping their nimble hands busy holding a joint between two fingers or holding a mug of beer with one hand?
