Solar Stik generates portable power in a pinch

solarstik2.jpg

Stocking up on gold bullion to get you through the impending financial apocalypse? Don't forget your electricity needs, easily satisfied by the $5000 Solar Stik portable wind and solar power generator. The 80-pound twin solar array and wind turbine generates 80 amp-hours a day as long as the sun shines and wind blows.

Team this up with a few good batteries, and you could run a vacuum cleaner long enough to clean up all that broken glass. Add guns, plenty of ammo, and a case of whiskey and you might last at least until the rest of the food runs out.

The question is... where do you store the energy generated, if you don't use it?

is that big yellow box a battery/AC inverter?

How much is lost by converting the DC power to AC, (and then back to DC for most portable devices.)

It is interesting, though.

Well, unless the apocalypse wipes out wildlife, you should be pretty straight for food as long as you have guns :D I don't know about where you live, but in most of America there are enough deer that in a survival situation (meaning ignoring the game laws) any idiot could bag enough meat to survive; there's also liable to be huge numbers of wild hogs in any country where they pig farm (and I mean wild hogs, which are generally a few generations removed from farm hogs and taste just the same). Even if they were too inept to do it fishing (doesn't take too long to catch a day's meal fishing.) For the rest, forage is damn easy to find in any wild area.

Course, you could huddle up in the cities and switch to cannibalism once you've depleted the grocery stores' canned goods. That works too :D But I think our only likely near term apocalypse is a complete collapse of the financial system, so you should be mostly fine heh :P
