Single-Person Helicopter concept lets humans play insectoid menace

copter723.jpgFans of the Icon A5 personal aircraft will be excited to know that the future of personal flight will likely include vehicles like the Igarashi single-person helicopter. The concept vehicle, designed by Japan's Yutaka Igarashi, looks like a cross between an alien insect and a next-gen Transformer—cool, but just a little scary. If insectoid personal transport vehicles like this do become commonplace in the future, sci-fi movie art departments will have their work cut out for them when it comes to envisioning sufficiently futuristic landscapes.

I saw this the other day, when you guys posted the deal about the Igarashi motorcycle, and I checked out their site.

I want this thing SO BADLY. the only thing better would be if the jet intake were a bit further away from your ears, and it had counter-rotating double main rotors, instead of a tail rotor.

How amazing would it be to commute by air with something like this, with perhaps just a tiny bit more weather protection.

Reminds me of the book "Brave New World."

Is it as difficult to fly as full-size helicopters? If so, common use might not be plausible even in the very distant future.

2 problems from the looks of it the main rotor is lower than the height of an adult standing up (free frontal lobotomy anyone?) and the rear prop should be shrouded as in many rescue choppers or the jet should be ducted through slots. A small rotorcraft like this is a chop job waiting to happen.
