Gone wrong: Now here's an unboxing for you

Notice you don't see many "unboxing" videos on DVICE. There's a good reason for that. They're stupid. Check out this one, the most realistic one yet, which serves as a lampoon of the futility of the whole worshipful unboxing genre.

We also tip our hats to its unsaid dig at the insane packaging of consumer electronics products, wrapped up like perishable candy bars in their bulletproof containers. Too bad we all have to pay a price — sometimes in blood — because of a few slimy shoplifters.

Product packaging is a huge pet-peave. It is frequently so difficult to open the package that the product is destroyed in the process. I've purchased items that have not survived the unwrapping process.

Apple is renowned for its elegant, minimalist packaging, and this unboxing – fun as it is – might well be a setup, as the Apple Remote's really not that difficult to get into.

I had one not so long ago, and all it needed was a careful knife-slit at the top of the pack, a second or two of patience, et voila!, the remote was free.

What do you have against unboxing? The whole point of unboxing is to show people what comes inside of, say, something they are going to purchase. It's important to people who are going to buy it, and interesting to people who are interested in it.

This video is clearly fake. Besides, if you know the product is going to give you trouble, you open it up ahead of time. I can't imagine what braindead moron put a fake video of someone over reacting to opening a box up and thought it was a good idea. This kind of personal vendettas should not be what gets posts on DVICE.

Of course it's fake. It even says so in the post. The word "lampoon" means "to make fun of". Duh.

That being said, unboxing is mind-numbingly boring. I don't care about what comes in the box except for the thing I'm paying money for. The rest is just so much wasted space in my trash can.

I totally agree that unboxing is as lame as it gets. Really -who needs to see the manual ? Don't we all know it comes with one? I bet it comes with cords too... and I also bet you could see all this on the product page.

Now if you're gonna rip the thing apart then I might be interested.
