Express your love for Bill Gates with $173,000 Microsoft sunglasses

When it comes to collectibles, value is based on the relationship between supply and demand. In simpler terms, that means you'll get the big bucks only when you have something really rare that lots of people want to own. That's why it's pretty amusing to see someone trying to auction some cheap 1980's era Microsoft sunglasses on Ebay for the price of a house. The seller claims that these were made in very limited numbers, and that this is probably the only pair still around. So they are really rare, but unless Bill G himself has some weird nostalgic memories of this promotional item, I can't see anyone coughing up this sort of money. Lower the reserve to $10, and perhaps I will put it on my watch list.

OMG!!! Too, too funny! The ebay ad says "A reliable source said these were only given to a handful of employees and every pair has been broken or lost over time... Except for these!"

This is simply not true. I have never worked for Microsoft, yet had at least 2 pair of these glasses, maybe more. These were handed out in large numbers for free by Microsoft at COMDEX shows in Las Vegas sometime during the early-to-mid 90's. I don't recall exactly when because I went to several during that time. In fact, my employer received several large boxes of these sunglasses as freebies after Comdex ended and nobody wanted them. They may have been related to the release of Microsoft Bob, software voted "worst product of the decade" by CNET.com. I believe these sunglasses were also available in orange as well. I had a few pair of these in my truck for a long time, then finally threw them out as I was never desperate enough to use them.

Thanks for the laughs from memory lane. Later!

are you kidding me!!!!! what else is next apple underware "take a bite of apple"
