Contact lens jewelry for your eyeballs: Ouch!

Eric-Klarenbeek-Eye-Jewellery-Project.jpg
What you're cringing looking at is a piece of jewelry for your eyeball. Aptly titled "The Eye Jewellery Project," artist Eric Klarenbeek threaded some medical wire through some crystals and attached it to a contact lens. I don't know about you, but feeling a thread between my eyelids every time I blink would take some getting used to. Still, you're bound to turn some heads.

Klarenbeek was asked on a video he posted on the project what would happen if someone tugged (yeee-ouch!) on the line, the artist responded, "It just falls out... (or in worst case, [sic] the wire might break)." At least it won't take your eyeball out with it!

Still with me? Well, steel your stomach and click Continue for a video of Klarenbeek's eye jewelry in action, eerily set to Nine Inch Nail's Ghosts. Be sure to also take a gander at the gallery below for some close-ups.

That's one of the coolest things I have ever seen. It looks a little awkward, but you probably get used to it. I think I'd wear it for the creepiness factor alone; it's kind of cyberpunk.

I think it looks interesting and if you can get used to a contact in your eye, you can certainly get used to this. My only concern would be the cost...my lenses aren't cheap and if they fall out every time they get a little tug, that could get $$$$ quick

This is flipping retarded. "I'm so emo I want to hang crap from my eyeballs so I can look like I am crying" Hey douche bags, I will poke yo in the eye for free and then you can have some real tears. Jewelry my ass....

Wow, do I see a product liability lawsuit coming in that companies future. Eye infection anyone?

Whatever. People have done and will do more bizarre things. I'm disappointed in the video and the photos. Show me pics from the side, standing next to people, leaning over or working at a desk. Show me video of someone walking down a sidewalk in a city, driving a car, riding a bicycle. Yeah, show me REAL LIFE activities, not still-frame models with Barney Google syndrome.

This reminds me of the time after I had eye surgery when I found there was a loop of cotton thread sticking out of my eye (used for stitching the cornea on again). It was removed after a week but the effect was very annoying; Red Eye is not just a late plane.

Ok,

Laser Eye Tattoos, designer contacts, I can see those two lasting a good long time. But crap hanging off your eyeball? That isn't even going to last 5 minutes.

lol, then zeston should see the comment by alexander @ 1:50PM - there will always be people to appreciate the passions of others. but this is not for me either! naldoman @ 10:25PM has the idea: real life activities, let's see it.

Looks like an eye booger. People would constantly be flicking at it. Stupid.

WTF... And I thought people could not comeup with ways to be more emo. TOTALY Agree with Captnzro.. So when an emo kid cries.. Does anyone care?

I think it's kind of cool. Very futuristic and new age looking. I could see it catching on as long as there were no weird eye side effects.

who comments on this kind of thing anyway?

It seemes to me... or it really looks like they wanna cry or their eyes are sick?

Looks like crystallized semen stuck to dental floss, hanging out of someones eye. What a waste of creativity! Can it be used as an alternative fuel source?

"who comments on this kind of thing anyway?"
uhh, you just did... ;)

Camera focused on model for Utube... as they fade out, model screams, "My eye! My eye! The wire poked my eye!!! Get it out!!! AAAHHHH!"

Okay, so what keeps the contact from sliding down constantly? Hell, mine have moved cause I turned my eyes to look without moving my head (not often, but it happens) What's going to happen when you add weight? And if this happens while you're driving? Another question would be what does this do to your vision? Yeah, this can't be too safe.

@ Audax: There are hard contact lenses that are made not to move in your eye like the soft ones do. Though from what I've told they're not as comfortable. Also, a contoured lens can keep itself in place. Ever see the contact lenses that turn your eye into cat's eyes?

@everyone: Note how in the video, it seems like they've slowed things down a bit for our viewing pleasure, and the model is /still/ unable to keep her eyes from blinking constantly? Yeah. Looks like a really comfortable product to wear. I suppose your eye can get used to anything, but still. :P

This is one of the stupidest ideas I've seen a long time. It will be used by people with a pathetic need for attention, and they'll get it - by others who will think it is funny to simply pull the contacts out by the thread. Also, the thread is attached to the middle of the contact, therefore right where the middle of your pupil would be. I hope no one who actually needs contact in order to see is dumb enough to use these.

É a cena mais estupida e inutil que já vi na minha vida!

And this looks attractive to whom?...other than a Halloween gimick, or for those into ink and piercing.

I doubt it will take off, medical thread would be rather expensive from a beaders point of view.
As for the look, I agree that it looks stupid, who honestly wants to look like they are a car mirror with something hanging to swing side to side for however long they can stand to have the contacts in?

Um, I just got contacts, and they are quite comfortable, but there is no way I would EVER wear these; they look retarted, and I don't think they would feel very nice either.

I'm ashamed to be a human being sometimes when I see things like this.

@sunnyjay
Please don't link the tattoo piercing crowd in with this silliness. :)I am the proverbial tattoo piercing crowd, and for that matter quite fond of halloween junk. But this just looks downright uncomfortable, inconvenient, and most likely vision impairing.

@jdevo
If this makes you ashamed to be human, what does the evening news do to you?
