Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld star in odd new Microsoft ads

See if you can make any sense of this teaser ad starring two of the richest guys in their respective fields. Ad agency Crispin Porter & Bogusky takes a sideways approach at salvaging the reputation of Microsoft Vista with this 90-second flight of fancy starring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld, not exactly advertising the company's products, but making an impression nonetheless.

The spot debuted last night during the NFL opening game on NBC. Without taking a swipe at any other companies, it manages to create an edgy atmosphere of borderline mental illness. I like it. It almost makes me feel guilty to laugh. I get it. This spot is so odd, it will create buzz all across the blogosphere, arousing the ire of haters while amusing those with a satirical sense of humor. That's success in any adman's book. Can't wait to see the rest of these.

If Jerry Seinfeld is smart, he'll take the $10 million Bill Gates gave him and invest it in Apple stocks.

Seriously, I think this ad proves that those of use who have long questioned Bill Gates' sanity were right on target. Billysoft has become IT's equivalent of Michael Jackson.

But BG didnt touch little boys. As for apple hype.. They have yet to even get 10% of the market. Seems alot of apple fan boys forget that we did this all before with XP.. "OMG ITS HORRIBLE HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO US" bla bla bla. Now its the standard. Give vista time itll be the same way. ME I wait two years before jumping to a new os. Let the other suckers outthere work out the bugs. OSX no differnt.

I agree completly m3kt3k. The only reason Vista gets negative press is because thats what sells for the media (the truth is never gets as many clicks). The Vista OS itself is sound and quite remarkable if you use it.

I agree with m3kt3k and Rofg.

Is Vista better than XP? In my personal opinion, no. They bit off more than they could chew early on, chopped stuff out, and most of what we really want in a next-gen OS is coming out in Windows 7 (or whatever its codenamed right now) in about 2 yars. But is it Windows ME all over again? Dear god no.
