We've been hearing a lot of talk and seeing a handful of demos of pocket-sized projectors, but now there's one going on sale September 30th. The first one out of the gate is from 3M, hawking its MPro110 model to all those with a need to project tiny images from a tiny projector.
While this might be a cool conversation piece for the well-heeled gadgeteer, we wouldn't even plunk down a quarter of its $359 selling price for it. We've seen this mini-shiner in action, and we're here to tell you first hand, it's not good. If you don't mind minuscule, washed-out, blurry images even in a dark room, go for it.
That doesn't mean these things aren't ever going to be useful. Heck, they'll end up in lots of cell phones and even portable PCs someday, giving you the chance to set up an impromptu mini-theater in a pinch. But that day might be a while off, waiting for LEDs to get brighter and the components of such devices to be further miniaturized. Until then, we'll pass.

I was sitting in a public restroom stall the other day and it occurred to me that it's the perfect venue for a tiny projector like this.
Also, may be cool for airline seats.
